I landed a great deal on stock lx470 rims and basically new nexen roadian 275/70R16 tires. $300 Facebook marketplace. Nice fellow had upgraded to some beautiful 18 inchers + TAK02’s on his newly acquired lx470, and didn’t want them anymore. I thought I’d take a rest from the rough mpg’s I get with my AT’s, so check out my new gas misers. Looks like a black paint job on the rims, an acquired taste, and appears to be a decent paint job was done. Riding beautifully.

I have the same headunit! Actually installed it a few months ago - how/where did you route the microphone? And did you get the wiring for the mic to tuck in well?

I routed it through a space between the vent and drivers cluster that is visible with the stereo bezel out. I used a coat hanger to fish it through. I stuck the mic on the steering column. The double sided tape that comes with the kit is not great. I used gorilla ds tape. Be sure the leave enough space that you don't hit it with the wheel at full lock.

Wow! 37’s are big.

You’re on AHC? With a 1” BL front to back?

I honestly think you got this. Maybe squeeze an extra bump up from the AHC by fabing a bracket and keep the system happy with some AHC ram spacers like @OEMGUY0720

Yes 1 inch right now. I've got 2" body lift pucks coming from flatout off-road, should make it pretty easy. AHC spacers from Japan 4x4 coming too.

I’m curious about offset needed to clear at the frame. They clear frame at 1”?
Yes they definitely clear at 1", full lock. So any offset less than +35 should be good to go.

Good news! I just ordered some Bora 3/4" spacers which will put me at +31.

Took a trip through part of the eastern Mojave Road and Death Valley.

More Joshua Trees than in JTNP...by far
mojavedv1.jpeg

Hid out at Death Valley Mine because it looked like rain. Then, snow happened. In April. WTF?
mojavedv2.jpeg

Met a buddy (not @Dan2722 , but close) in Baker, then headed up into DV.
mojavedv3.jpeg

Up to the crater then out toward racetrack...saw some flowers
mojavedv4.jpeg

Sat around waiting for the solar eclipse near racetrack. Didn't notice much in real time, but the reflection/defect in this pic may have caught something...
mojavedv5.jpeg

Went down Lippincott then north toward the springs. Skipping everything that may or may not have happened at the upper springs (wink wink), we headed out through northern Saline Valley Road
mojavedv6.jpeg

Finished up in Alabama Hills where they seem to have purchased "Day Use Only" signs in bulk.

Swapped the old antenna to a fixed version and installed the ASB100 in preparation for a winch while retrofitting the cabin air filters. Hoping this cuts down the amount of dust throughout.

Got the 40 gallon tank installed with new fuel lines/roll-over valve/fuel pump, looking forward to reduced range anxiety. Will need to do some modification to the rear-most dissent skid to get it all to play nice.

On to some hopefully straightforward wiring projects! And shameless plug, posted the dual-sport for sale: For Sale - SLC, UT: 2007 KTM 525 EXC - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/slc-ut-2007-ktm-525-exc.1336611/

415K miles on the odometer of our 1998 ... had some down time between jobs late last week ... so I spent three casual days doing :

4 new Bilstein shocks from SLEE
Front brake pads
Timing Belt
Water Pump & Drive Belt
Power Steering Pump & reservoir
Power Steering rack & new tie rods

The in-laws bought it new in 1998 and handed it down to us with 150K miles on the odo. AFAIK that was the original steering rack I pulled out ... I laughed when the bushing just fell out ...

Very nice trip! Did a similar tour in DV some time back, but the amount of blooming plants you saw… nice!

Also just did Mojave Road 3-4 weeks back. Great idea to combine all those spots!

I honestly never even touched, let alone sat in or drove a 100 series before this purchase, and I have to say, it's one of the best vehicles I've ever bought. I've been made a believer, and I've hardly even left pavement with it yet. I went in figuring if I hated it, easy rust free flip in the salt belt, but after just two thousand miles, absolutely not. Easily makes the top five vehicles I've ever owned (and trust me, I've owned a lot)

When I get home I'll give it a dedicated thread as to not pic spam this one, but I'm still in the honeymoon phase.

You definitely got the right color ;)
Best advice I'd give to myself if I buy a stock 100 series, is to keep it as stock as possible. Every mod you make is a compromise and unless you absolutely need the mod, it is not worth it. Just baseline all the fluids and wear items and enjoy it.

Replacing the fuel pump and fuel level sender and this piece was laying free in the tank. Does it attach to the little 90 degree fitting that the corrugated black hose hooks to? Looks like the little duck valves that allow pressure equalization but just making sure it’s going back together the way it should. The service manual doesn’t show anything there so I’ll probably just leave it off.

The miles to empty would be around 80-100 sometimes and would drop to zero after turning it off and back On. The last fill up happened before the gas light came on and I apparently only had 2 gallons left in the tank, so I figured it was time to replace the sending unit and the fuel pump while I was in there. They both had almost 270k on them. Looks like the sending unit was getting a little worn right around the low fuel marks so it makes sense now.

Rebuilding a UCA and I gambled on a “warehouse liquidation last set” of 2 MOOG bushings for $10.98 from RockAuto. I have worked in the aftermarket suspension world for the last 12 years, so I’ve seen a lot of bushings from MOOG, Mevotech, Tenacity, Tenneco, yada, yada. I also know most of their origins. However, never did I expect to see Made In Japan bag staring up at me from a MOOG box. Even more baffled when I opened them and they’re stamped Made In Japan. They appear to be pretty high quality from what I’ve seen with MOOG. For $11, I’m going to run em on a rebuilt arm with a new 555 upper BJ 🤷🏼‍♂️

A couple years ago I decided at the last minute to do the LCA bushings and picked up Moog because it was what I could get quickly. They were made in Japan with the Toyota part number on them.
