Added front disconnects and a 24 gallon reserve tank also some new springs in the back to handle the extra weight.I was really busy with building a shed to put my tractor in and a couple of other projects so I had “The Truck Shop” in San Diego do the install for me. Very happy with the quality of their work. If you’re anywhere in SoCal I recommend them for working on your LC/LX.
She’s coming along nicely.
What did you use for the accessory fuel tank?

I did steering stuff today. I got the new steering rack in without throwing any tools BUT I forgot to get the oil housing oring so I had to order it and I’m still waiting on the pump. If fed ex doesn’t let me down , tomorrow I’ll be done. I did manage to get the old rack out without lifting the engine but Im also really good at Tetris and puzzles. I did however receive my icon pros today and to my surprise were not damaged considering the lack of packing. So to celebrate I orded some tires so I have something to look forward to next week. Then on to the globes.

Ugh, just found out they can’t align my 470 because the steering rack bushings are shot and it’s pivoting in the mounts… when it rains, it pours.
What are the symptoms of having spent steering rack bushings? I’m worried my 244k 06 LX is going to start having issues like that at some point. How many miles is on yours? Do you go off roading a lot?

I was highly interested in one of their systems but it says it doesn’t work with my 06 model which I didn’t find out until after I bought the vehicle last July :(

Think it could be modded to fit the 2006-2007 revision?

Sloppy steering, maybe VSC light and beep during a sweeping turn. If you look at the steering rack while someone else turns the wheel the rack itself should not move at all, just the inner/outer tie rods. I had to replace mine around 280k, but there is a wide range where people do it.

If you Jack up your front end and turn the wheel, the whole steering rack will shift in the mounts. It’s not supposed to do that. I have 343,000 miles, so I guess it was only natural that it should’ve worn out at some point. I try to hit a trail every 30 days or so. I don’t tackle the big rocks, but I don’t baby it on the dirt, gravel, and washouts. I set the suspension dampening to comfort and stay around 20-30 MPH unless there’s a bad curve, really steep descent, or a bad hole or bump. I only ever use sport dampening on the highway and usually keep it one setting softer.

The shop got my new rack 8n today, but they didn’t get to the valve cover gaskets yet so I’ll have to wait until Monday to get it back. I am going to have them return my old rack and sell it with the new bushing kit. Don’t know what a fair price is yet, but I’d like to recover some of my costs.

I’m not sure what the difference is. I think there were some minor mods needed on my 05 but nothing major.

You could call The Truck Shop, they sell the tanks and seem to have lots of experience with them. They could probably tell you what is needed on the 06

A solution for the larger main tank is in the works.

In the last week, I ...

installed the "warm white" interior LED kit from @FullyLitLED ...

blowed up my front differential in that mud hole and drove it 500 miles home with the center locked and some really bad binding & clashing at higher steering angles and slow speeds ...

and promptly bought a new differential and installed it along with some new CV axles I happened to have had so I can rebuild the ones that came out since one of them (also going to put in new front drive flanges while I have it apart - one of them felt like the splines were starting to round over and it was hard to get on and off of the CV joint splines).

(to help with other people searching for this in the future, the part number is 41110-6A171 and its the 4-spider-gear / 4-pinion front IFS open differential with 4.30:1 gearing - it fits the 1998 through 2002 model years ... don't ask what it cost, I had that memory erased and I black out every time I try to remember)

Once the front diff is broken in (I'm going to use the 500 mile break-in procedure from Cruiser Outfitters) I'm going to go ahead and ...
  • figure out why the rear locker isn't locking
  • run extended breathers for the front, rear, & transfer case for peace of mind & street cred
  • change all the fluids in the above
  • inspect what looks like a coolant leak (please don't be the water pump ...)
  • maybe clean it

That LED kit looks useful 😬

Super useful! That was a dark moonless night and I had to move a ton of stuff around to get my sleeping situation situated.

For funsies, here's a side-by-side of the original (top) vs the new (bottom):

Neither of the two shops I go to will try, and nobody else can get me in to even make an assessment. It’s my only vehicle, so the repair needs to get done. In the end it’s ok, I have just under 350,000 miles on the original rack, and we’re going to do the tie Rod ends too, just to get them done. I’ll be happy I got it done before wheeling Uwharrie in the Spring, and Moab and the Badlands & Black Hills of South Dakota in the Summer.
I replaced mine in my garage. Not much to it.

New headlights acquired! OEM or bust! The ones on the truck are cracking as you can see. They are going to make it looks much newer! And Thanks to Daniel Stern on here for the bulb suggestions!

Car wash today. It always seems to run smoother and have more power afterward.

Tomorrow night I drop it off at the mechanic to hopefully get the misfire diagnosed and fixed.
There is truth to this. I read a test where they measured drag on a dirty Porsche and a freshly waxed one, the waxes one has a lower coefficient of drag making it faster around the track 🤗

It's a 2004, Non-Nav Atlantis Blue. Purchased in Puerto Rico and shipped it to Texas. All LC's up until the 2013 model year did not come equipped with the OEM navigation with built in HVAC controls. You can find a 200 without Nav down there fairly easily. Great thing about it is they are US-Spec so importing is a non-issue.
What sites are good for used cars in PR?

-New valve cover gaskets
-Reconditioned injectors + new seals and fuel damper
-New plugs
-Changed all the vacuum lines to silicone
-New PCV and hoses
-Oil change and UOA
-Greased all the zerks, took apart rear driveshaft to clean slip-joint seal
-Removed, cleaned, and repainted the front skid plate
-Changed interior bulbs, puddle lights, and license plate lights to LED
-Replaced front driver lock actuator motor
-In-depth undercarriage inspection

I just got it a few weeks ago, so I'm trying to get as much as I can squared away
