Got a lot done this week. New Walker muffler installed, new OEM shocks all the way around, replaced the cabin air filters and the gasket at the bottom of the of the plastic cover. There actually wasnt even an existing one in its place, makes sense why it was dripping on the floor board.

Got a diff drop kit coming in tomorrow and plans to crank the TB‘s a bit more.

Did you drill the hole to get to the top shock nut??

No I didn‘t. There’s enough room up there to use a ratcheting wrench to get it off, if you can get it to break loose haha
I actually ended up having to chop up my drivers side shock to push it out the top. Wasn’t fun.

Why not just a trickle charger?

... because I can't. ;) 2 of my Landcruiser are store away from my home and this option is simply not possible.
 
Did some snow wheeling and camping this weekend with the Seattle Cruiserheads (Andy, Todd, Rob, and Mike). Tried to make it up to Gallagher Head lake, but the last 1/4 section of trail to get there was completely covered in snow. It was getting pretty late, so we decided to set up camp a little down the trail. Some guy with a Jeep came up behind us as we were getting turned around, he wanted to see if he could make it on his own where we stopped. Don't know if he and his lady friend made it or not?

Overall it was a great day with beautiful weather. Dipped into the low double-digit temps overnight, but with plenty of firewood and appropriate clothing, i wasn't too bad.

Running open diffs with chains really taught me a lot about how well the 100-series handles snow and ice. A-Trac only kicked in a couple of times and proved how good the feature is. I still want to install lockers, but can't complain about how well it performed compared to everyone else who was stuck and triple-locked, I never got stuck, even when I had to blaze a trail to turn around.

Field expedient body repairs. Ran the rear quarter panel into a medieval building in Tordesillas, Spain a couple weeks ago. (Us: surely google is right and that dead end sign is wrong! Oh, it _is_ a dead end…”)

Bought some plain old white acrylic and emery cloth. Pretty pleased with the results of the 10 minute job in a Portugal campground. Should at least keep rust from forming. And looks pretty great from 40 yards.

Can you recommend a set of chains? I'm running 285/65/18s, not an immediate need. Wanna have it in the truck for winter trips

There really isn't anything special about buying a set of tire chains beyond their intended use. You can buy the socks, the clips, ladder style / traditional chain. You can go from mild to wild. I run a set of these on mine right now Tire Chains - Ebay They are considered a "convenient" tire chain and I would say a 'medium' duty. I would call a traditional ladder-style chain with heavy gauge links a 'heavy duty' application. These work for me because they aren't too heavy to haul around, they install easily, and they are made out of heavy enough material I'm not as worried about a failure when under load.

These allow the user to install them without needing to roll the vehicle forward or backward onto them. I still assemble as much as possible and roll onto them if I have the space, but I also installed 4 on the FZJ80 in the snow on this trip without too much hassle. Still needed to adjust them when the tires made a few rotations.

my tire size is 285/75 R16. When I aired them down to 18psi, they were a little loose.

After three months of shipping delays from Japan, inspection delays, Woolwax undercoating, etc, my 04 LC is in my garage now. 106000km/66000 miles and rust free underneath. Pretty happy and should last me a long time.

Bought these Method 305 wheels and put some Falken Wildpeak 275/70-17 on. Unfortunately, the snow has started in Calgary, so this was a test fit with a drive before I took it back home and put the Tundra rims with Blizzaks on. Some rubbing on the mudflaps in N at turns with the Falkens so I hope it is just a bit of plastic trimming. I will deal with that in the spring when it is time to switch wheels again.

I like the Methods and had hopes that the centre caps would fit over the front hub but no go. I will have to put a hole in the caps or go naked. Haven't decided yet.

Still have some other mods and work to do. Removing the front air dam, still trying to install a new Android head unit, rear camera, license plate mounting. block heater and the heater T's. Probably do the timing belt over the winter, as I don't have any service records for that.

Warmed up a little today and I hosed salty brine off of the truck and her belly. I heart Cleveland.....sigh.
We don't have a lot of salt on our roads here, as it is mostly sanding. That comes with the other drawback of rock chips and cracked windshields by summer. Take the good with bad, I guess. Nothing left to do except move to Arizona or Texas.
