Playing with wheel paint. I can’t decide if I want to go with gloss black, or gloss gunmetal. Pearl white LX470, 16” Land Cruiser rims. I’m not generally a fan of black rims, so thought some form of charcoal color would show some detail without looking like High School rattle can. Opinions?

Also, replaced my fob battery. Tiny little philips head screws, Energizer 1616 lithium battery and I'm back in business.

In case you had any doubt, definitely gunmetal. 👍

Knocked both of these out yesterday.

Upgraded the button contacts on the clock and climate assembly to tactile switches as the old rubbers were getting a little worn. Button depresses now match the feeling of my radio buttons :)

Cleaned out all my switches and started figuring out an LED setup. Need some lower resistance for the center section of the climate controls and some of the switches to the left of the steering wheel for a little more brightness, but the color matches great so far.

Non Nav Climate Controls 😍

Any notable rattles from it? Or the gear inside?

Haven’t even driven it yet. I can feel the weight and hear the gear in there when I shut the gate but hopefully thoughtful placing of items should take care of that. There’s still a little bit of Dynamat left over around the edges between the gate and the storage steel so I do not anticipate any rattles between those two.

Non Nav Climate Controls 😍
Been researching and collecting parts for the swap since late November, tinkering with it over the last month, and finally getting it worked out and finished now. Swapping out the bottom of the center console today with a larger cubby (OEM non CD changer), blank switches for the right side of the steering wheel, and a removing the rear audio controls and replacing with an OEM blank. After sorting out the LED brightness difference, only things left after that is to run the wiring for the mic to the overhead console and install a 12v backup camera! A ton of work, but hands down worth all of the effort to me!

I've had one of the tailgate lids since 2020 and don't think I've ever heard a rattle or noise from the tailgate...

Took off the side steps after years of negotiations with wife. Reorganized gear and washed the pollen off the new ride. View attachment 2982753View attachment 2982754View attachment 2982757View attachment 2982761
The dreaded side step debate. I bought my truck from a buddy without them, and if I have to hear from my 5'7" wife or 5'4" youngest boy whine about how "hard" it is to get in the truck again I'm gonna have to break down and buy some sliders for it. Hop, my lovely people. It's not really that hard and you're not 80. There's a handle!

(They rarely ride with me unless we're headed to the garden center or something and want to take the "old car." I put the AHC to low for them and they thought that was magic the last time - I'll have to just remember to do that.)

Possibly helpful data point: my 5'3 wife and 40-52" tall kids all have been scrambling in with nary a complaint for over three years now since I removed the side steps.

They're all spoiled by years of minivan life. Minivans are GREAT for little kids and old folks because of that whole low floor/ ease-of-ingress/egress thing, but this is MY car. They can adapt... (or give me a reason to buy sliders, that's OK too)

My wife has learned to use the A pillar grab handle to hoist herself into the LX. It'll do till I get sliders

I wanted something in between gun metal and black, it’s called “VW Black”.

Guess the new part.

Shout outs to John and the team at Landcruiser Specialist here in Austin. First time visiting the shop and getting work done. The parking lot spoke for itself with an awesome array of TLCs across the years. Accurate and fair quote. Same day completion and also helped identify my future projects(steering rack leak, vcg leak, radiator leak).

How did I not know these guys were there!?!? So close to home too, I'm just up the street in Round Rock. Will definitely be reaching out to them for a few things. Thanks for sharing!

^Jealous of your garage depth. Once I get my beast in mine it's all squeezing around the sides and front. Dang builder-grade "2-car" garages, grumblgrumble...

Bumper looks great, though- all killer no filler and it doesn't scream out "LOOK HOW OVERLAND I AM" even though it's a great, quality piece of kit.

Thank you! Yeah we lucked out on this house. The guy who built it put that garage dimension correct so it could fit a truck.
