Started out replacing radiator, hoses, thermostat and adding a coolant temp sensor.
Stripped down and found oil seal on injector pump was leaking and water pump was a bit tired. So ordered more Toyota goodness and kept going.
Put the front of the motor back together this afternoon.

Turned the motor over 6 times to convince myself I had the timing belt correct.
Makes it so much bigger job when you have to remove second battery, intercooler pipe work, redarc bcdc that lives behind the grill and trying not to disconnect the winch cables that run through the grill.
Hopefully get it going again Monday. Been told it’s a no car weekend. 😢
Forgot to update.
All back up and running.
The coolant temp sensor is in and working. 83 degrees Celsius seems to be its happy point. the temp probe is in the outlet at the top of the motor. Had to modify the probe a little to get it to clear the timing housing but forgot to take photos. Bit more of a compromise than I wanted but it works and shouldn’t play up.
It’s really interesting to see how dampened the factory gauge is. At 44 degrees the factory gauge showed the car was warm.
My automation nerd gets all excited when I can see the thermostat open and close.

Interesting to see your build thread, please share the link when its ready. Educate me why you afraid of towing mantis from a LC?
We've grown out of [at least for long trips] living in the dirt, but do still love tents. This served as my winter covid project to build up.

LC100 is a lot of things, but would argue it is not a towing vehicle, especially at altitude and with very steep and long passes to navigate like in Colorado. I'm lucky to get 50mph up Highway 70 to Eisenhower pulling this. Flatland .. probably a lot less concern.

Here's a teaser [of course there's a fridge in the pull out drawer behind my wife!]:

Sad feeling escorting one of your own on a roll-back. Believe I lost one of the bearings in the diff. Will end up going with a Harrop elocker with 4-pinion design and new ring & pinion (stock gears)

I assume that you’re talking about “losing” a front diff?

You mention that a replacement Harrop would be 4 pinion, but assuming that the 00 LC in your signature is correct, wouldn’t the OE open diff have been 4 pinion as well?

I’m thinking pinion bearing or one of the other bearings inside it. Don’t think it’s any teeth on the ring gear as it wasn’t a catastrophic failure. Will see for sure once it’s open.

Honestly, this is something I’m going to have to find out when it’s opened. I know 98 & 99 had a 2 pinion design and they changed it to 4-pinion for ‘00+. My truck has a 9/99 “order” date. Stumped I am.🤔

Getting ready for her summer vacation part two.
New leather front and rear from Land Cruiser Heaven. This is the second set of leather covers I’ve ordered. The first from Lseats. Do not hesitate to pay the difference if you are on the fence. My wife says it’s the difference between a school bus and a lexus. She’s not a car person but I’ve spoiled her with some nice cars.
While the seats were out, I treated her to a full detail.
The leather was installed by.
I cannot recommend highly enough.
I could have spent all day in their shop. Old school craftsmanship you just don’t see anymore. View attachment 2709147View attachment 2709148View attachment 2709149View attachment 2709151View attachment 2709150
Happy Father’s Day boys and girls.
That corvette in the back looks ridiculous!!!!! In an amazing way.

New a.c. condenser ,evaporator, tx valve , thermistor sensor, pressure switch , o rings, lubed and filled with specification denso nd8 oil. Retorqued to spec where possible. Pressure switch doused with wd40 and waited overnight.. did not want to bend lines removing it. Came off a lot easier .
Everything new , will pay to get it regas where i got it degas. (Then they can do final checks)

Just finished installing my Harbor Freight Badlands 12k Apex winch.

The install went VERY smooth and was beyond impressed with how clear and simple the instructions were for relocating the actuator box.

I also drilled the remaining fastening bolts for the IM bumper, what a learning curve that was!

I originally went to my local hardware store and picked up a 7/16 titanium drill bit thinking that would cut right through the frame after punching a pilot hole but learned the long and slow way that was not working. Ironically, I had an old drill bit set in my work bench that was from Walmart “hyper tough” and they were titanium bits.

I was able to go use the various sizes to cut through the frame in no more than 5 minutes per hole.

I started with the 3/16, which took a good 2-3 minutes to punch through, but after that, every size up from there only took about 10-20 seconds to punch through.

All that remains now is to drill the actuator box to the metal bumper and install my Trail Tailor front extended sway bar end links that arrived today! :)

Agree, barely enough when loaded up for camping trips even without a trailer. Going to be slow and expensive. LRA aux tank is in order also 🤔

That trailer looks great! It is a Texas product I believe. Have you used it much? Any thoughts? I like that it seems to match to height of the LC, looks like it is built to fit!

She got a new umbrella...Nomadic 270 ...After a bit of head scratching in 95 degree/100% humidity, got it installed on the Bowfin rack. It went throughg a rainstorm just fine. A trip is scheduled in a few weeks. When pulled tight the thing sheds water like a champ. This pic was the next morning prior to packing it up.

Walls fit in a Pelican 1620.

Awesome! I'm surprised you didn't relocate the box behind the front grille. I really wanted to do that, but in the LX, it just wasn't possible without fabricating some sort of heavy duty mount. Question: you didn't want to use the Apex hook that came with the winch? I think it's pretty great.

Today after sitting on my Ironman 4x4 driving lights for months, I finally had time to wire them up and trim the control box of the winch to make it fit.

Also while I was in there, I swapped out the battery terminals from the old fuzzy OEMs to the SDHQ billet versions

I haven’t decided on a final resting spot for the box, I got done installing the winch late in the day and it was a scorcher so I was drenched in sweat and really just anxious to get the winch wired up so I could test and make sure it was working.

I’m gonna play around with it tomorrow and see if I can fabricate a quick mount to get it behind the grill but either way I have no issue mounting it externally if need be.

And I did use the Apex hook that came with the winch, it’s just not visible in the picture as it’s hooked to the factory shipping points underneath.

Side question: Does 33 ft/lbs seem like a very low torque setting for the 4 winch mounting bolts? That’s what the instructions had listed but it just doesn’t seem right lol.

Lastly, today I got my Well Visors mounted and installed the TT front extended sway bar end links. Probably the easiest thing I’ve ever installed on the Land Cruiser.

Definitely trying to get caught up! Send me a message if you need me to check on anything for you!
I'm still waiting to hear from Ironman 4x4 as to what you intend to do about the loss of my ONE torsion bar from my delivered order. You asked for my order number that I sent...Order #34695. I sent the picture three times and so far have not heard a thing: This is what I got from you....

Hi Harold. Sorry to hear about the damaged package with one torsion bar. To begin the process of getting you new ones, we will need some pictures of the box and the condition it arrived it. Can you please provide a few pics of the damage?

Thanks

I would really love to find out what the status is on the replacement Torsion bars.
