As promised, we are offering a pre-order group buy exclusively to the IH8MUD forum to celebrate our IH8MUD vendor account launch.

For those who missed our forum introduction: we are a Houston, TX based importer & distributor for South African off-road brands who are not yet present in the US. We have spent the last 18+ months creating the foundation for our company and had booths at Overland Expo West & East '19, sponsored KOAR.UP in Michigan this year and set up several product ambassadors to help get some products out there and in the hands of future customers.

About Big Country 4x4: Big Country 4x4 has been manufacturing Land Rover and Land Cruiser products for 2+ decades in South Africa and we are the proud distributors of their products. While they have a 200+ page catalog we have started with a core group: The Ostrich Wing 270 awning, the Penthouse XL hard shell RTT and selections of their welded roof racks and Savute series of drawers. We worked hard to establish a local inventory while *no-one* knew anything about the brand. To help introduce them to the US market we produced a short company profile video posted to our youtube channel:

To celebrate our MUD vendor status we are offering to following amazing deals. There will be a lot of questions about the products and we will answer them all as fast as we can - but please check out the product brochures on the racks and drawers attached.

Shipping: Freight (racks/drawers) and UPS Ground (solo drawers and gull wings) from Houston via our discounted rates: budget for $150-170 for a rack or drawer. We will however quote these out for every sale and charge you exactly the resulting cost, no more. If you buy a drawer and a rack we can ship them together, saving about $80 on total freight.

Timing: This group buy will coincide with our 1st shipment of 2021, scheduled for mid-March departure from South Africa, mid-April 2021 arrival in Houston

Limits: We will limit this offer to the first 20 racks, 20 drawers and 20 sets of Gull Wings

Offer cut-off is Feb 15 - but may be revised if possible within our logistics constraints

Payments: 50% deposit secures your build, balance due by Feb 20th 2021
To order: PM us on MUD your order, email address, shipping address and phone number - an invoice will be raised via our website and sent to your email to execute.

Roof Racks
: (fully welded aluminum from all custom extrusions, mounted via custom 3/16" thick tracks fixed to OEM holes, no rivet nuts, no rack assembly needed - ready to mount)
Full Size Rack MSRP $1550 Group Buy $1000 + freight from Houston
3/4 Rack MSRP $1495 Group Buy $930 + freight from Houston
3 feet per side, 530lb dynamic load rating

Tailgate Storage: MSRP $725 Group Buy $470 plus shipping from Houston
Big Country 4x4 developed the first 2-hatch 100 tailgate storage kits in South Africa more than a decade ago. They have since been made by many other vendors but the originals are now available in the USA! What is unique about them?
  • 2 layers on 3/16" Aluminum plasma cut and welded together. In other words, the backing plate is also 3/16".
  • Stainless Steel hardware & aluminum rivets
  • Automotive carpet kit included for finishing the interior of the tailgate
  • Powder coated

Savute Drawers: (galvanized steel, aluminum, black powder coat, automotive carpet cover, side trim panels (except GX460 seat mount)
These drawers are made only for these vehicles and provide 18% more space inside while also being lower profile than most other brands
Savute Twin Drawer MSRP $1650 Group Buy $1050 + freight from Houston

Gull Wings:

Made from 2 layers of 5-bar aluminum sheeting, laser cut and roll formed to fit the vehicle perfectly. Dustproof, waterproof, lockable and gas strut operated.
These are unique on the market since they do require drilling and sit one the window seal, not in the window seal.
They are not to everyone's taste as they are extremely heavy duty and not sleek and not everyone will want to mount our custom, heavy duty tracks to their vehicle to mount the hinges. That is OK - we are catering for a very specific need.
If you want to reverse back to the OEM windows or are concerned about resale value these are not for you. If you are building a rig that will be kept, or sold as a rig and looking for a heavy duty solution: these are for you.
Land Cruiser 100 Gull Wings MSRP $1100 per pair Group Buy $750 per pair + shipping from Houston
Keep in mind: drilling is required, and these are sided, not universal

Curious how’s the clearance of the back end of the full-size roof rack with the rear wing when the tail gate is fully opened upward?

Not a great photo - actually ... objectively terrible photo given your question :)

I'll find a perpendicular one for you - but essentially the rear of the rack is about 3/4" forward of the body gap. You can move it slightly more forward if you wish but the more backset the rack the better the aerodynamics.

So close.... but still no cigar. This is the rack in the forward-most position, as you can tell from the the front cruiser bracket feet on the end of the tracks. this has about 1" clearance to the body gap at the center point.

You can tell this is in South Africa by the no-nonsense barbed angle iron electrified perimeter fence and the owner of Big Country 4x4 standing on a 79 series to take the photo... :)

With the tailgate storage do you lose any functionality of the door lock?
Nope. The fitting instructions also mentions how to route the cabling for the latches and other wiring and fitting kit includes the zip ties to tie them off at drilled support holes.

Any more info on the drawers? I see the website shows 2 additional pictures, but was wondering if you had any more. Trying to get a better idea of what that piece of sheet metal on top of the drawer is, how the tilt feature works and how things are secured to the tilting part.

Drawers: we will be populating more photos as the installs happen - the 80 drawer is actually the same as the 100 drawer minus the side wings and brackets being a little different - so I am attaching plenty of 80 photos for reference and the drawer brochure and the drawer option page (only the standard twin drawer is in the group buy - but there are many versions in the range).

The "tilting part" - are you referring to the flip-up work surface on the open drawer or do you mean the tilting fridge slide (which is optional extra/separate product) ?

The flip-up work surface is a galvanized, powder coated sheet that is fixed to the drawer in the rear with two through-bolts with nyloc nuts and washers. Very simply to move it from one drawer to the other for your setup preference (by default it comes in the right drawer for most vehicles). Both drawers have the holes in the rear for mounting the flip up work surface.

The tilting fridge slide is a separate product and it comes in 4 sizes - for 40, 50, 60l and 65(Snomaster) fridges. It can slide out horizontally or it can be unclamped from the base so it tilts down on a front hinge. it is through-bolted onto the engineered wood (Superwood) deck with supplied hardware. If you want more info on the fridge slide let me know - that is a separate product and the photo of the slide on the drawer product page is simply to show the functionality of the drawers: they are designed to allow for up to a 60l fridge on top. (lots of other drawer systems are too tall for that).

The photo below shows the fridge tip slider in more detail - but it is also on our website. We will be carrying the entire range of fridge sliders - there are 4 tip sizes and 6 straight pull-out sizes, up to a heavy duty for 95l Snomaster BDC which is a monster.

If there is enough demand we might add a separate group by for the fridge sliders range.

some more 80 fit/finish photos. 100 similar but different - of course. Ignore the pioneer speaker screwed down on the right rear wing.

As you can see the wings sit flush with the trim panels and flush with the seats. You can still recline into the first notch but it is tight. The goal is storage maximum in the drawer.
Side wing covers lift up via the finger holes and rest on 2 aluminum welded L brackets on the drawer and on the rear cover trim panel next to the drawer face.

If the rack can be adjusted forward a little bit I think the factory rear wing can clear the back end edge of the rack.
For reference, here’s the tailgate (with the factory rear wing) fully opened:

The rack sits clear of the body gap so it will work with the factory rear wing - which appears to sit outside the body gap in the open position.

I will get some specs from manufacturer but this looks like a non-issue. They design it to be clear of the back so you also have some room for an underslung work light above or below the perimeter extrusion.

This isnt a problem. The Big Country racks come with variable height feet - so the default kit can be raised up about 1" effectively to help make space for items such as underslung light kits.
Capture3.JPG

If that is not enough, we can step up to the next foot height - which are also height adjustable by 1.75" so the minimum setting on them is slightly lower profile than the highest profile setting on the default foot.

The rack weight is approx. 34kg - around 75lbs.

Do you have any photos showing the 3/4 Rack? The photo on the website looks like the full size rack...https://www.ruggedbound.com/collections/roof-racks

We noticed the same thing - taking that photo off now actually. We do not have a good photo of the 3/4 rack but it stops behind the sunroof for a full access / unobstructed sunroof.
