Received my Rhino Rack Base Kit for my Pioneer Platform retrofit. Jumped into it this morning while it was still cool. Thanks so very much to all for the inputs gleaned from MUDDERs here. Your experiences and guidance provided a pretty seamless install of the Base Kit (6) in total.

Understanding the how-to removal of the gutter molding made access much easier. On our '05 LX there is no plastic cover to remove to expose the center section bolt-down area. Per the guidance of several I trimmed away a piece for the center base to fit. Also per guidance, I used a very good Marine Grade RTV around all the openings prior to applying the Gashet Washers (12) next to the gutter openings...I hope I've used enough to prevent leakage.

Things went together very nicely. It made perfect sense to build the twelve bolts, washers and rubber O rings in advance, making sure there were two M8 x 40mm Button Head Screws for each middle mounting pad. The ends were requiring the M8 x 50 mm BHS. I only had one glitch during the install. The rear BHS on the driver side middle pad wouldn't let me hand tighten it into the hole. My Allen wrench wasn't up to the task so I came back to it after fitting all the rest with my persuader. I Love My Dewalt... I think the screw saw it coming and went right in where it was supposed to...:poop:

As has been mentioned by others, there are some air gaps between the mounting pads and the gutter molding trim but once the Pioneer Platform is in place, nobody will be the wiser. I, like others here, thought we would see some tighter tolerances as the prices might indicate.

Now I need some support from my 19 year old son to help prep the Pioneer Platform and hoist it into place.

Cheers Again Mates For This MUDDY Place. More to follow. G

Installed the BT45-TOY. Last week I fixed all the speakers, so now I'm jammin.
My rear driver side door speaker is busted. Any recommendations? SQ guy here. Thanks!

For now, I had a spare RAM Diamond Ball mount. I simply took the the little mic holder that comes with the radio and stuck it on the base of the diamond mount (the holder comes with 3M tape attached to it). It held up all weekend here in TX in 98 degree temps and bouncing on rough gravel for over 300 miles. Seems plenty sturdy for now. I'll keep messing with the setup until I get it completely dialed in. Ultimately want to be able to have all my comms in close proximity to one another. I'm strongly considering moving the base unit into the armrest. It would be FAR less prone to dust in there vs in the back cab....plus, I'd have much shorter runs of CAT5 cable and power leads.
That's where I have my radios just haven't got a good solution for the mics yet. Thanks

The rear door speakers on mine didn't have foam surrounds, they were cloth and still intact so I didn't have to repair those. Have you taken off the door panel to verify if the cone is not attached to the surround? It may be the speaker integrity is still there and something else is causing the issue.

BenCC is about to release what I think will be a perfect solution. He has those overhead console replacement panels for switchgear and Scangauges. He's about to release an RJ45 adapter that goes right in where a switch would go. I recall you fabbed up your own switchpanel in your upper console (GREAT video BTW). The mic(s) could then be mounted up high using the newer rare earth magnets (have to slide the mic off they hold so tight). You'd keep the mic/handset in the armrest or the house most of the time. When you go on an expedition, you'd simply plug in the handset/mic to the RJ45 in the overhead console. That's the solution I'm going to go with for both GMRS and HAM.

I haven’t taken off the door panel to check it visually but I sure will very soon. Yeah I hope it’s still repairable. What should I be looking at in terms of its integrity aside from the sound coming out of it? Thanks

I would go ahead and replace the speakers with aftermarket. The price is reasonable, installation is simple if you get speakers that fit without modification. The place you buy them should be able to tell you if they fit. Removing the door panel is more difficult than replacing the speaker.
Just my 2 cents.

Any physical damage. There will be fabric around the edge and there should be no holes in it. If the paper cone isn't secured, the speaker will sound a bit fart-y when playing bass notes. If it sounds scratchy, that would be the voice coil rubbing.

I probably would have done this but there is no consensus on the boards as to what speakers to get. I was tired of juggling so many speakers in my shopping cart, I just decided to repair what was there.

HA! Eagle Eyes to be sure...Cheers Mate. 🦅

My Uncle was in Class '43, I was in Class '74 and my son became our Family's 3rd Generation Eagle in Class '19... We were all OA as well. 🏁

We're very proud of what the BSA has done to prepare young boys to become great role models/leaders. I wish my daughter was young enough to become an Eagle as we're going to see some young girls turn into amazing women leaders as they come up through the ranks too... 🇺🇸

Eagle Scout in '14 here as well as OA, cheers:beer:

SCS F5s installed. I have some rubbing at full lock that I need to investigate, but other than that I'm happy. I'm running 285/75r16s.

How are you liking the Pioneer Platform @Txcoast ? Any regrets/second thoughts? Is that the 84" x 56" version?
Cheers mate,
G

Played around with replacing one of the grab handle screws, with a RAM ball, for a GoPro mount:

It's the 76"x54" rack. I like it a lot, I haven't had any issues with it. I probably would've gone with just the individual mounts instead of the backbone. The backbone looks amazing in my opinion, but the 6 individual mounts would make access under the platform much easier.

Just bought everything to refresh the sunroof after the worst leak yet yesterday, caused by the torrential downpour of a thunderstorm. I'm talking the stuff you have nightmares about - driver footwell, passenger footwell, and water dripping out of the overhead lights/switches. Even though I cleaned the drains out a year ago, I figured I'd give it one more shot since we're due for lots more storms this week.

Opened up the sunroof and was greeted with half an inch of water just chilling there (had light rain throughout the day today). Couldn't even see the drain holes at first. Sprayed 90+ psi down each hole for probably 15 seconds and all the water drained out. Stepped out of the rig and was greeted by beautiful puddles behind each front tire, and a nice continuous drip.

Lesson learned? Sunroof drain tubes will now be cleaned every oil change, and after every off roading trip with mud. #IH8MUD
