Finally installed my trail tailor recovery points! Look much beefier. Was told I needed 45MM bolts. With both spacers used to keep points proud of ARB bar requires longer bolts. Luckily, I found that the OEM mounts on the side with the hook use much longer bolts. Cannibalized the bolts from the front and rear hooks and got the TT mounts to work.

Also took advantage of a 60 degree day after a few weeks of single digit and pressure washed the undercarriage. Now I need to find a shop in Denver to mount the King Springs. Any suggestions? Back to Slee, or just go to Discount Tire?

Thanks,

Todd

Tested out the new front locker. Much more controlled and no more atrac chattering. And the SPC rear arms flex pretty good.

ALSO, Best buy of the year. Went to 4wheelparts with @DragoISAR got a 10k synthetic X20 winch for 100 bucks (remote didn't work, but someone in the parking lot had a spare and sold it for 20 bucks). 120 dollar 10K synthetic winch.

What trails are you guys running? Looks like Osceola National Forest in the background. Not sure about those rocks though.

Next time you guys wheel let me know!!!

Flushed the AHC fluid just now.. The old fluid was baaaaaad. Seems to me it wasn’t ever changed.

I feel much better now. I wonder how much better the ride will be... 😂😍

Here’s the old AHC fluid.
Supposed to be a clear pinkish color.. View attachment 1923358

Let me know if it rides any better, or makes any difference at all. I have a 2006 with 205K miles and suspect it's never been changed, one local Cruiser specialist shop said "better not to mess with the system, just leave it alone". But most here obviously recommend maintenance and servicing it. Curious about your results.

Minor weekend achievement - spare tire replacement. I have had the truck just over a year, had replaced all four tires but did not get a spare at that time. I got 33" tires, have a truck with some rust, and am not ready for any rear bumper or mount so I had some research to do - spare tire lowering lock, what to do if too rusted, will a 33" tire fit under truck. IH8MUD came through as usual - procedures on how to lower, how to replace whole winch mechanism if too rusted, and 'yes' a 33" tire barely fits. First issue was missing jack and spare tire parts - couldn't find extensions to reach into lowering mechanism and couldn't find the spare 'key' either. After soaking everything in aerokroil for a while, I peered into the hole to access the winch and saw what looked to be a nut - tried a 5/8" socket and it fit. Used socket extenders to reach it and tried to turn - somewhat surprisingly it popped loose with some effort and lowered with no issue. Did I not have a key lock, was that an option on some trucks only? Don't care - lowered fine with my setup. Got a 33" tire mounted to match the others, and went to raising it back up. Sure enough, barely fit - some may say "perfect fit". While a few inches short of fully raised up, there was a "pop" and socket falls off - with key inserted into it. Someone had left the key in the mechanism and it had never fallen out, becoming firmly attached with some corrosion. My 5/8" socket was fitting over the end of the key meant for the extension arm, which as mentioned was missing in my truck. Attached all back together, raised tire fully up, and now I have the key in a safe place. And I'm ready for next week's trip to Big Bend National Park with a spare.

I’m starting a project to regear the transfer case. Going with a the lower low range and hirange underdrive setup. This should be fun....

To reduce the down time, I purchased a used transfercase and will install the new gears in that then swap the cases.

While I’m in there I’ll replace the transmission mount on the bellypan.

In progress of the tear down, I broke a bolt. However the rest is cleaned up. Note that my donor case has a one piece input shaft. This is not what the gear set expects so I’m working with cruiser outfitters to get a input shaft that will take the underdrive gearset.

Did a thing. @cruisermatt helped
My LX looks very similar and I have an Ebay snorkel sitting in my basement waiting for the warmer weather. The install looks great on yours! Did you also drill holes in A-pillar?

Hasn’t officially happened yet, but if everything checks out with the PPI on Monday, the white ‘05 will join the ‘99 in the driveway, taking the place of my wife’s Q7. In the future, the ‘99 will become my son’s when he starts driving and the ‘05 will become mine.

Everything seems to work except the Night Vision. Def not a deal breaker, but would be fun to have it working. Will need new leather on the front seats and a good detail. 244k on the clock. I have to say, I’m surprised at how much better and easier the ‘05 drives.

Well, as of today, I’m the proud owner of two LX470’s. My old one, “The Beast”, or as my wife and kids know her as “Spot”, is a ‘99 w/ a custom paint job and 241k on the clock. The new addition, to be known as “The Abominable Snowman” is an ‘05 w/ 244k. She’ll remain stock for now.

Tip for guys looking for a good one. Keep your eyes open, don’t be scared of miles and be ready to strike as soon as she goes on the market. Friday, the wife and I were heading a couple hours away to look at an ‘04 when something just didn’t feel right about it. I called an audible right outside of town and headed home. That evening, saw this one, got in touch with the owner and met to look at it Sat morning. He was kind enough to let me drive it for the weekend, I had a PPI today and by 5pm she was mine.

Been having fun with all this snow lately! Managed to get two of my neighbors outta the ditch in one day a few weeks ago...

Did a mid/late winter refresh, clay-barred, glazed, and sealed. Prepared the undercarriage for the annual oil treatment I get late March/early April, may go with a different company this time, we'll see.

Kid's TLC threw a P0308 this morning on his way to work.

No problem I thought, as I had a spare Denso coil pack in our parts stash.

I learned tonight that replacing a passenger side coil pack has an added step of dealing with the "intake connector pipe". It wasn't that bad, but trying to do it in limited light, at 11PM, in the driveway, I'm sure I muttered some 4 letter words about why couldn't it have been a driver side coil pack.

They're hard to find. My 02 LC has 320k still strong!
