What goes on the passenger fender under the heater motor? There are three tapped holes in the fender. There are no wires that I can see coming out of the harness. I am pretty sure this truck is a Federal spec model.

my windshield washer mounted on the other fender and has the plug over there. You are right that the bolt pattern is similar. Did any 40s ever have the washer reservoir mounted on the passenger side? My ignition has been converted to an electronic ignition, so maybe there was a piece of the old ignition that was supposed to go there?

That is where the electronic ignitor was mounted on my 78. Used the two bolt on the front.

I don't know if that's applicable to my '77 model that didn't have an electronic igniter (you mean coil right?) from the factory - unless my OE ignition system used these bolts. That's my guess but I would prefer to know for sure.

My coil right now sits on the fender basically next to the battery, not sure why it would be any different from the OE setup.

Mine will  - good thing I don't have one on there! :D

Ok before this thread gets too derailed - so what really goes there?

somewhat (no air rail or smog pump or egr) - I did it. I don't remember taking anything off of the fender there though.

I do know that all the fenders have different holes in them... maybe it was replaced and they used a differnt or newer year fender and just threw some bolts in the holes to fill them up...

My (stock) turn signal flasher is under the dash above and left of the clutch pedal.

I have the same holes on mine ('78). My igniter and coil were on a different bracket that sits further forward on the fender. Since my driver's side fender is a cheapo CCOT model I assumed my passenger side was non-original as well. Judging by the paint discoloration, the lower single hole looks unrelated to the upper two in your photo. I'm using the inner one for a wiring harness clamp.

Emissions crap......vacuum surge tank. Should look like a washer fluid reservoir with a vacuum line hookup on top.

Okay more pictures since there have been lots of ideas:

The first shows my driver side fender. I believe my vacuum surge tank is mounted on this fender under some VSVs. My windshield washer is mounted near the back, down low. That is where my wiring harness had a plug for it to work. So yes the bolt pattern on the other side is similar, but electrically it was meant to be here.

The next two pics show my passenger side fender. you can see the '78 electronic ignition coil, my horn relay right behind it, the charcoal canister mounted off to the side a touch, and as the fender slopes under the heater motor there are those three bolt holes. The last pic shows a little more closeup view. This fender is OE to the truck as far as I can tell, seeing the original color showing underneath what looks to be the same overcoatings that the other parts of the engine bay all share.
