Looking for ideas so show me what you use.
An old coffee can?
Box?
Tackle box?
Ammo can?
One of those Milwaukee stackables?

Plastic Ammo box. Metal ones are good too, but ted to be rattly and can rust. (we've got enough rattles and rust in our trucks already)

For spare parts I have a cheap Harbor freight tool bag. I keep it rolled tight with small bungees to keep rattles down.

Con-Ferr locking box:

Ita funny you post this because ive had my 80 for over 10 years and do take it wheeling and camping and I have never had a part fall off or even come lose or brake. I keep meticulous care of the 80. But for some reason all of a sudden I think I need a spares box. :meh:
Maybe I'm watching too much 4wd24/7 on you tube! Oh well, cant hurt right?

I scored this box from a guy who was dumpster diving outside of HP when they changed to their 3rd location. He believes that it dates to the "moms garage" era of Hewlet Packard.
It's a typical "Palo alto" fruit box as one would find in any agrarian area in the mid 40-50s
I collect Hewlett packard test equipment for working on tube amplifiers so the box is a good addition to my collection.
It rides in the landcruiser and I put things I commonly need in there.
Pens, papers, a radio, spare change, headache pills..

Old stuff like this is so cool because there is always some neat details someone thought of, like carving out a place to grab to pick it up.

That's standard fruit box design.
We (california) shipped millions of boxes of fruit across the country for decades in boxes just like this. These were repurposed in the early days of HP, the way you or I would re-purpose the box from a 12er of Sierra Nevada pale ale.
(Which we ship millions of boxes a year of)
I just think it's cool that it was in the garage, where Hewlett packard started.
Hewlett packard was at the forefront of technical innovation for decades, and that's not just marketing speak. Their test equipment, even 50 year old test equipment is highly coveted by electronics techs to this day. I own several of their signal generators and distortion analyzers, and they are able to sniff out absolutely miniscule levels of harmonic distortion where I use them, and I think I've got 4 additional sensitivity ranges beyond that.
Best part about it, is that it's a sturdy box, which has all of the utilitarian qualities of a sturdy box, so it gets used as a sturdy box, plus it has a story.

I bet I carry easily hundred pounds worth of spare parts, tools, recovery gear, etc in the back of the 80. Everything is secured, including the dog who lives behind a cargo barrier.

In these pictures you cannot see the wide compartment that goes from the left wheel well to the right wheel well behind the drawers where all long, ugly, heavy things live. For example, axle shafts, drive shafts, berfield's, hubs, who knows what else live in that wide compartment. I'm too paranoid about F=MA to not have everything super secured in case of a collision, rollover or an accident of some sort.

I have drawers as well. Main reason was like you to keep everything that could be ha heavy projectile in an accident/rollover secure. Even the drawer cabinet itself is bolted to the floor.
Also yes that long area behind 2nd row and in front of drawers is great for long stuff! I put shovel, max tax there.

your MWC set up is awesome there. Love it

depending on where and how far we are going depends on what to bring. For what I keep everyday in the 80, just an ammo can with essentials zipties ductape electrical tape fuses and fusible link and some other random stuff. And also a Noco jump pack.

I’ve had a Noco jump pack in the cruiser for last few years now and I deem it essential. I’ve used it thankfully never on my rig but several others. It is fool proof, completely safe, and best part is you don’t have to hook jumper cables up to your rig and risk messing up any aftermarket 12v accessories! You can also charge any usb accessories and it will jump several cars before having to be recharged. I sound like a commercial !

For spare parts I got a fair-sized black plastic box that stays strapped to the side of the 55. Carries a starter and a birf and a power steering pump and fuel filters and hoses and stuff. Ended up with a couple spare 2F head gasket kits so I carry those too.
And tools. Just the essentials though.
