I just went through this dilemma with a palleted transmission and transfer case. I bought a $43 digital crane scale online and measured it myself. Of course you have to have a way to lift them but otherwise all you need is 2 or 3 straps. Frankly I couldn't believe that you could get a one ton capacity scale that cheaply. I've only used it once but it worked just fine.Bump for this oldie, but goodie bits of info. I needed to know how heavy two short blocks are for shipping purposes. Google’s top answer for a single short block was 700-750lbs. “A significant weight, reflecting the engine’s robust design and construction.” Seemed a bit much. Thanks for the info, fellas.
From Toyota in there packaging it’s around 340lbs for a new short block. A block it’s self is just under 320lbsBump for this oldie, but goodie bits of info. What?? Damn that’s sad. He really helped me out a few years ago when I was rebuilding my engine. He sourced a 1FZ head, had it machined, and sent it to me. He was a real one.RIP Paul!!
