This bumper?

I've always wanted to start building an excel sheet that lists the interchangeable bolts on our rigs just so I can keep it in the tool drawer. IIRC the seatbelt bolts can be used for something too...

No matter how much bling you tack onto the bumper, it's likely bolted on with the frame nuts. So M12x1.25 bolts, that in a pinch will work on the calipers.

The seatbelt bolts are 7/16"x20, the only std hardware on the truck.

Very eloquently put:flipoff2:

Not sure why but when I penned that, for whatever reason I thought my aftermarket bumper utilized different bolts.

Turned my Lowes Kobalt craptastic toolbox and integrated the drawers into a home built drawer system thingy. Also Bagged up all my recovery stuff too. I be crazy organized with my vehicles..

Not organized as it should be but i was just getting done mounting my tire onto the system

Recovery Gear (aka. Jeep puller outer) bag.

Some of the tools, I bought the foam from Sears and cut out the shapes for the tool, no more too rattle

Wish I had a partner like this for tool retrieval :p

That's a nice drawer setup but that foam is a total waste of space.

Disagree. That setup is badass and the foam is awesome. My OCD approves.

“A place for everything, and everything in its place.”

All of these people keeping their tools in drawers are going to be disappointed if the tailgate or rear hatch ever get stuck closed, which I’ve seen happen.

I have seen people wedge their trucks so that they couldn't open the gate to get access to their recovery equipment as well. I have considered that as a possibility but I need to have my truck organized. Call it OCD.

We can all brainstorm scenarios where we are unable to self-help for one reason or another. Maybe we don’t own the correct recovery gear. Maybe we didn’t bring the right tools with us. Maybe we stored the tools incorrectly and they got damaged or lost. Maybe our hatch got stuck. Maybe there was a freak accident and the tool drawers are jammed closed.

Is this all possible? Sure. But at some point you have to create a solution that is best for you, and execute.

I’ll take a set of well-organized and well-equipped drawers and run the risk that the hatch won’t open.

I mean, the perfect solution would be to never drive our trucks. Then the hatch could never get stuck closed and we would never need any recovery gear. That would be 100% risk free and boring as hell.

I want to meet that wrench dog 😎

SWAG Baja bin 24g action packer with oils and tools, ratchet strapped on opposite side of spare tire carrier, with 10L Jerry can between middle row and tool box. Recovery gear is on the tailgate storage. If needed, i stack another action packer on top of the baja bin,

Tailgate rod failures are real and not uncommon for people that store heavy stuff in the tailgate. After experiencing failure (not pleasant with my set up:bang: ) I rerouted the rods and safety wired them where the plastic clip secures them.

I have no use for drawers mainly because you need valuable counter space clear just to open them. For me everything is within reach and super easy to access from the back, side Gullwing windows, or second row behind the driver. All my important stuff is visible and easy to inventory. Most all my tools and repair are in the 2 red Sawzall boxes. Recovery gear is accessible from the rear hatch or the side Gullwing windows. Air for tires and air tools is always ready to go inside the Gullwing windows. For air tools I carry die grinder, blow gun, cone washer remover, and 3/8" IR gun. Welding set and brake flaring tool and everything in between.

My last winching experience I could not open the drivers door and my passengers Gullwing window where I kept the winch controller, soft shackles, and tree strap was not accessible. Now all that winch stuff is under the hood where its always accessible.

I have everything in labeled pouches and Planko water tite plastic bins. Then the bins go into one larger canvas bag and the pouches go into a different larger bag with larger tools like sledge, saw, breaker, etc. When I finally build my drawers they will be tall enough to allow the Planko bins to be stored standing up. These bins are perfect for organizing tons of small things. View attachment 946290View attachment 946291View attachment 946292
Good god! Why don’t you just bolt down your Snap-On rollaway in the back?! No wonder your super charged.... you have to move all that weight!

I have the 3FE...... I don’t NEED tools....:flipoff2:

Don't think I haven't thought of it :hmm:

BTW, I have used my stuff FAR MORE for other people than for myself ;)

"Brainstorm scenarios" are one thing, but some have BTDT and prefer learning from mistakes. It's actually pretty easy to get stuck or break, where hatch access is not available. Having swings makes it much easier, more common.

Please explain how to get to the gear in the "drawer system", would be worse if it had swing(s). Not that bad of a stuck, would have been more challenging with swing(s), the spare on the ground, likely supporting, holding up the the rear.

Agree, all about intended use, that type of thing is great for "expo lifestyle" groomed trail riding. For what I enjoy, will never have swings or drawers again, way too much of a liability.

I love my rear drawers. Yes there is a possibility of getting jammed in the rear and not being able to open the drawers. I’ve been in that place once.

So I keep a bits and a driver in my glovebox so I can access the top of my drawers from inside if needed. It’s only a hand full of screws for each side. My winch controls are hardwired but I keep the controller and gloves in the center console just in case.

I build my drawer system as well and can remove the top if I am stuck, alone and cannot gain access. Some of the places where I wheel look alot like the Arizona scenery above that Tools R Us posted up and you can get wedged up just as shown. It would be a pain in the ass to have to remove the top of my drawer system but that's life when you wheel alone. I wheeled from 1997 to 2010 in my current Landcruiser with no lockers. I carried a shovel and a come-along with straps. I learned what else to carry and how to enhance my vehicle from my painful misadventures. I have taken some long walks over the years, sometimes in really nasty weather.

To answer the original question in this post, I lined my drawer system with rubber mats like you use in your workshop. I then broke my tools up by type (wrenches, screw drivers, socket set) and put each type in those large cloth bags you re-use at the grocery store. I tied them up tight with the straps and stored them in the drawers. They don't make much noise because of the matting in the drawers.

lol, I’m know that’s true! Luckily I haven’t suffered any major breakdowns in the middle of BFE.......... yet! But, just about every time we go somewhere, someone will ask for some sort of tool. We have to keep those Heeps that those “ mentally challenged” friends of ours drive moving.... don’t we?!

No, just prayers.

Obviously your not too bright when it comes to Cruisers. All the 3FE needs is beer in the crankcase, and take a leak in the fuel tank, and that beast will run forever! :flipoff2::flipoff2:
