What did you do with your truck this week? (8 Viewers)

Well, Bertha is still running and Ima be driving her for the next week or so until I get my gears sorted out. I can't say that I've really beat on these gears, I've spun the tires some, but no bronco-billy wheeling to speak of. There must be something else out of whack in my third member.

Oh, the u-joint was at the transfer case side of the rear DS. I should have known better than to put a non-greasable unit on there.

I had a question and wanted to see if any of ya'll have had this experience. Several months ago I swapped in a Power Trax No-Slip in the rear of my Tacoma. Having never driven a locked vehicle I took it slow in learning how to respond when the back locked up.

One thing that I didn't expect was I have to be way more careful when I take off now. Even in a straight line I end up peeling out if I give it too much gas. (I peeled out in front of a cop on Haywood road last week when I was stopped on a hill, luckily he had someone else pulled over).

As opposed to when I had open diffs and couldn't burn out on a dry road with my 35's if I tried. Same ring and pinion no other changes just the locker. Is this normal or did I screw it up somewhere?

Normal. Be thankful you don't have an auto. I had lock right in my old 62. Wheeling it was awesome having it in a daily driver I did not like. The auto would shift and I would have to hold on because the rear should shift when it locked.

I noticed too that it's slightly harder to get in gear now when I shift. I have moments where I almost have to double clutch when I shift, didn't do that before. (Granted my clutch probably has over 100k on it). I'm thinking that its just the drive-train loading up from the extra stress that the locker puts on. Glad I only have a 4 banger, and stepped down to 31's.

But on the bright side I'm loving how much grip I have off road now, can't wait to get out and try it on some real trails :steer:.

1. Replaced a worn-the-slap-out-can't-believe-it U-joint. 2. Dropped the trans pan, cleaned the strainer & magnets, replaced 5qts of synthetic WS type fluid. 3. Discovered my rear ring gear is toast again (appx 6 months old)!! 4. Front windshield played connect the dots this morning with the sub freezing temps and a strategically placed pothole. I now have a crack running all the way across the bottom of my view.

I see some 60 axles in your future. An 80 axle would be even nicer.

Looking for cheapest possible fix right now...empty pockets syndrome.

Ahhhh you are playing my song. We have finally got the house and property baselined, a few things left on the list but well on the way. Buying a short sale property saves a lot up front but the years of neglect took us a bit to catch up on.

My stuff always comes after customer projects as well. So by the time I get to my own rigs I have no money and no effort left to do it. Shoemakers kids always need new shoes.

Well after adding a bumper and storage/sleeping platform box in the back of the 60 last year it had a saggy bottom and the ride was definately off. So I finally got around to installing the add a leafs this week and got a nicer ride and got rid of the saggy bottom. This was the beginning measurements, the one side if lower due to the tire swing on the passenger side.

Got about 2 inches of lift out of them which I am pleased with, but also it now sits a little closer to level in the back now. Also I can tell the rig sits level front to back when sitting in the drivers seat and the ride is stiffer which is nice.

Also after a few years the 60 has heat again, all it needed was that pesky rubber washer which thanks to Marshall I was able to put it in today and it was a nice warm ride. So now the trip to CFW will actually be enjoyable rather than me freezing my ass off.

ordered a new aluminum radiator, ordered a trollhole carb, new ps pump pulley and need to order a water pump and ps pump...

got rear heater fan wired up, fan blades were hitting the exchanger, so I nipped the bottom corner off of all the blades.. probably took more than needed, but it works pretty good now
flushed cooling/heating/engine of 40,

uninstalled (then added some grease) and reinstalled the 8274, as I had reports of unsavory people hanging around the warehouse where I keep the 40 outside at 2 in the morning...... I could not find security bolts big enough, so I just welded one bolt head to the mount, now I need to figure how to keep the mount from being unbolted from the frame.

Props to Ralph Hayes

I've been dealing with Ralph Hayes for the past 15 years for many assortment of Toyota needs. Well we bought my wife an 02 4runner 4 years ago and I decided what ever service or problems arose we would just have them take care of it. With all the miles we've put on it I had the timing belt replaced when we bought it and then just about 10k ago, and when they replace the timing belt they replace the other serpentine belts also. Well about 2 weeks ago or so we were getting the hideous squealing from the belts when we'd start it up and it would last about 5-10 seconds, I figured it was the cold weather reaking havoc on the belts. Well then it began happening in the middle of the afternoon or after the car had warmed up, so it was getting worse. So I called Ralph Hayes yesterday and set up an apt. for this morning to take a look at it, with it being my wife's DD I needed it solved. Figured it was either a bad belt(which is a stretch) or something was loosening up, neither of which I needed to deal with once it was too late. So we dropped it off and hung around anderson then about an hour later they called and said it was ready. When I walked in Brad met me and said we got ya all ready to go, said they had to tighten to power steering pulley, went to the window pulled out my wallet ready to pay, and the clerk handed me my keys and the work sheet and it read $0.00, she said have a nice day. It made me feel good that even though after 10k miles they stood behind their service and fixed the problem at no charge to me. And to be honest I never looked at the original invoice to see if it had a warranty period, I'll have to look, but it's good to know that they take care of their customers. So thanks Brad and Ralph Hayes for taking care of us and thanks for being a sponsor of Upstate Cruisers!

New CD player installed (Pioneer), no more pulling CDs out with pliers.

Upgraded dash lights and dome light to LEDs, (www.superbrightleds.com)

Still need a LED flasher relay to keep my turn signal from driving me crazy at turns.

I upgraded my dashlights on the Tacoma to LEDs this morning too. I installed some regular blue lights in the instrument panel, but they weren't bright enough. That dashboard teardown was tough for me but I'm not too mechanically inclined. I only had one screw from the underside of the steering column cover that I couldn't get back in to save my life!!! Oh well! I'll try it again later. I also got the blue led 194s from superbrightleds. They look really good!! I also put in a new sony Bluetooth head unit in last week!!!

JP, we did get it from Patrick... he had it ready to come out when we got there except for the starter wire...had it on the trailer in about 30 min.
If only it was that easy to install.
