2 things. Bad output bearing or the inner roller bearing. Both can be fixed or replaced easily without taking the t-case out.

Good to know....thanks for the insight. Hopefully this weekend I'll get a chance to bring it into the garage for a good look!

If you are in the market for shocks, buy Monroe, I bought mine many years ago and don't have the receipt. Well they have a lifetime warranty with them, so I called Monroe and told them I no longer had the receipt and asked if there was anything they could do...she said all I have to do is fax her a copy of my vehicle registration with the part numbers and she'll email me an alternate receipt that I can take to the store and get me a new set for free...score...so tonight I'll be gettin her the numbers

I finally got the 35's on the 62. They look real nice, but I flexed it a little in a ditch, front tires rub the front of the fenders, and back tires rub the bqck of the fenders. :bang::bang:
Also found a bad tie rod on the left side:wrench::wrench:
I still don't have any rear shocks:doh:

Don't know about the front that's where I rubbed a little as well, but the back has not yet been a problem on mine. Mayhaps we did not put those springs on correctly, I think I would try reversing the rear springs and see it it hits before doing radical body surgery. :) Looks like I will be home Saturday and Sunday if ya want to put it up in the air. Oh! and I have a set of two high jack stands to take to load of the axle if we need it on order but I doubt if they will be here by Sat or Sunday. Doc

Well I was just joking , about needing the help, actually being under the thing after it nearly fell was the point, but I will have it back up on the lift Saturday afternoon if you want to swing by and turn a wrench or just hang. PM me if you need my number :Doc I also plan of fitting the Tuffy console and putting in the new IPA headlights and wiring harness this weekend too. So lots to do, Also have got to get pic's of the sliders reinstalled and some shots for Troolhole of the dizzy:bounce:.

Update! none of it happen gotta love grandkids they can screw up any plans so quick. Ended up playing grandpa both days. So going to try again this coming weekend. :)

Bled Bertha's new brakes and this thing will now stop on a dime. Before it felt like you had to put 50lbs of pressure on the pedal to stop. Now you just have to hover your foot in the general vicinity of the brake pedal to stop.

I'll take you up on that soon, Doc. It won't be ready for Gulches, anyway. I'll just tow the Jeep up there.
I'll get with you soon...Thanks.

Steve, yes it is,, but I just got word the head is cracked and non repairable.. good thing I have the one sitting on the 81 60 I was going to pull and use the block for the 2fe going in the 55... hmmm maybe I should make this 87 a 2fe....hmmmm

I adjusted the valves in the 40 and 62,, they sound SOOO much better,, I am have a good bit of gunk under the valve cover.. and even though the head was rebuilt 85k miles ago I am wondering why I have so much gunk... and smoke out the tail pipe considering compression is 150# at all cylinders...

I have a rumble under acceleration and think the output bearing on my transfer case is going bad,, there is a little wiggle in there.. anyone have experience replacing this? do I need to pull the tcase? I am considering pulling the motor, and separating the transmission, t case, and motor and replacing all gaskets and seals.. I might go ahead and convert to a manual... but I think I am going to wait until the 87 60 is operational...

the 62 seems like a rocket compared to driving the 40 for the last 3 weeks... so quiet and smooth...and powerful!! HAHA!

fj62

took some pics of davids 62 with the new tires. Now that he has 5 inches of lift Ill be getting his 2 inch springs and going to a 33 10.5 BFG AT.
I am trying to decide if I want to to put them on the stock rims or a set or 8" wide crushers I have.

HAHA!

i've rebuit both a split case and 3 speed case in the past 6 months....but i couldn't tell you if either output bearing can be replaced without removal of the TC...

i was told it could not be hence the rebuild...

i think he's talking about the rear output bearing.

Yours was already apart when you brought it to me so i didn't have to try removing the bearing thru the opening of the TC.

Nah. You will need a brass drift. The small roller bearing can be a bugger to get out. Most of the time I just use a dremel and cut it out. Use a screwdriver to pry the rest out. The other big bearing can be taken out with a brass drift once you remove the big c clip

Going to have to take the t-case apart to get to that one. Any wiggle in the rear output shaft?

bumper, winch, and snorkel are on the way, new hause fairlead and synth rope to boot!

There is a tiny amount of wiggle at the rear flange... From the inside. It is not the flange moving on the shaft.

Great, thanks!

Working at it

Few days ago I got a package from Southeast Overland (eventhough) and in it were my new IPF headlights and the IPF wiring harness. Today 98 sr5 came by and we fixed a leak in my fuel line, checked some items on his pretty blue 60 and then jumped into the headlight install, not all that hard but it was a blessing having someone with longer fingers to reach and pull the wiring harness into place. The install was basically non eventfull and the lights are on and operational. I was so tickled I treated our new club member to dinner at a local greek dinner and then we went sand running to test out the new lights after dark. All I can say the IPF ugrade to Halogen H-4's with the wiring harness is quite possibly the best upgrade I have made so far to BT-60. I can now actually see at night and my low beams now are brighter and reach farther than my 25 Yr. + sealed beams did on high. And I am afraid to even try to describe the improvement in high beams and this with a 60/55 bulb, no need for higher wattage at this time. Hopefully I can get the Tuffy console installed tomorrow Thanks Steve for sorcing the goodies and 98 sr5 for the assist your a good egg and I think will prove to be a great asset to the club. :wrench::wrench::wrench::beer::cheers:

Scott the 2" are they the ones he took off the 62 cause if you are going to use them I might want to get them out of the rain. Doc:)
