axle rebuild!

thanks UC

We actually got Bertha's 350 installed! We had Advance Adapter issues, since they changed the design and not the instructions. Turns out we should have kept our stock torque converter, instead of swapping it for a V6 Jeeper torque converter. We fully expected to go to the garage to "test" fit a reman stock converter, take measurements and then have a new custom tc made for us over the next week. We decided to just see if everything would fit together with the stock tc and low and behold it did - no thanks to AA tech support. But at the end of the day we bolted it all together for the last time (crosses fingers). Next up is wiring harness (miles of it, it seems) and engine accessories. Woo-hoo!

took big dent to axle rebuild at hardins so i could actually see what a 60 should look like when the body is straight.

removed a very noisy/annoying bearing that rides under the AC pulley. Replaced worn out tied rod end link bushings.

waiting on 3 more parts to arrive USPS then the 2F comes out and the diesel goes in!

Disc brakes on the 40... it actually stops when you want it to now!!!

Oil change on the 60. I always forget how fast 8 quarts of oil come gushing out of that drain plug. At least I had a Blitz metal pan under my drain pan, so my driveway doesn't look like BP was drilling for oil in my driveway.

put new gears in the window regulator on the drivers door...window acutally goes up and down without helping it along now

installed a key cylinder on the drivers door so i no longer have to get into the passenger side and reach over to unlock the drivers door.

Only minor progress on Bertha this weekend. The alternator, AC compressor and PS pump got installed. We started to plug in the wiring harness and realized we have a lot of unnecessary plugs. ACC suggested that we see what Fuel Injection Specialties could do for us and Brian gave them a call. After telling them what we were trying to accomplish, it turns out that the main ECU on a GM 1-ton truck has an anti-theft mechanism in it that needs reprogramming in order to work for our swap. So we boxed up the ECU and the entire wiring harness and shipped it off to San Antonio for reprogramming, and useless-plug-elimination (smog, wiper motors, washer fluid pump, other misc stuff). They'll tag all the connectors and leave us only what we need for this truck.

In the meantime we'll work on the exhaust system. Maybe even get the tailgate window working again.

Welded up my seat brackets, test fit the new seats and center console, bled the clutch, hooked up the power steering hoses and found out that a bolt was missing out of the back of the saginaw pump as my reservoir began to empty as fast as I filled it.

Ahh yes. I'm hoping to see that A/C working on that thing. That needs to be a top priority.

Ha-ha, by the time we get her running, AC will not be a priority LOL.

That was not the answer I wanted to hear. This has to be top priority.

Don't worry, we will get the AC working (we haven't checked the compressor yet since the lines on the original GM truck were bad), but it will be a fall/winter project. Can't do another ATL summer without it.

It's just that we've had to spend more $$$ on other things just to get her running that we had not anticipated...like ECU reprogramming and wiring. The ignition/key on the donor GM was chipless, but yet the ECU has some kind of contraption that won't allow it to work - was certainly news to us.

Removed Slee sliders and waiting on WhiteKnuckleOffroad sliders to arrive to replace them....Slee Sliders are heading to Maryland for new owner when I or someone else is headed that way. :)

why the change up?

washed her and put a UC sticker on the back window
