Trip up to Blackhall Mnt. Lookout in Southern Wyoming

I like how you mounted your shovel and the other thing. Very efficient placing while still having full use of the ladder. What kind of mounts are they?

Those are the QuickFists. I got mine from Steve at Southeast Overland.

Oh yeah, here's a shot someone else got of me entering the Toyota Alley.

Step two is trim a couple of the little fins from the battery so that it fits in the tray :p

Ended up trimming the battery tray instead. I heard of at least one guy on this forum who received warranty hassles from Sears because of the trimmed fins (which is BS).

In typical fashion, I turned what should have been a 2-hour job into a 6-hour ordeal :bang::

1) After fastening the starter nut and block ground bolt, and wishing I had one extra elbow per arm, realized I installed my new harness backwards and had to redo!

2) Discovered the new J bolts I bought at Pep Boys were way too long. Then proceeded to break one of the stock J bolts trying to make them work (they actually are 'just' long enough but really need to be about 5 or 6 threads longer).

3) Adjusting and hemming and hawing over things. Finally decided to run with positive towards the fender as opposed to negative, so the accessory posts are towards the front of the battery and not fighting for space with the main posts.

Now...Tundra/Sequoia alternator. I noticed you have one, @NLXTACY...how has it worked out for you?

That place holds a special place in my heart. I used to live in Ouray as a adolescent and still love it. We were up there last month. Looks like you had a great trip.

For J-bolts, got a pair that were too long. Got a die and threaded it on before using a bolt cutter to snip off the end. Then threaded the die off to cut the last thread since the bolt cutter smashed it. Takes all of a minute.

I made sure both positive posts were on the opposite side of the fender. Because of all the stuff I added I needed to make sure that even during an accident I won't have a body panel contacting the positive posts.

As far as the 150A Sequoia alternator I couldn't be happier. Since I have so many accessories now plus dual batteries, it feels good knowing I'm not stressing the charging system.

Painted my bumpers black and couldn't resist painting my wana be napa steering damper yellow, now if I only had a OME decal...

Thanks, good to hear on the alternator before I plunk down for the bracket, small pulley and alternator. Planning to run dual batteries and a crap ton of accessories so I'll be in the same boat as you soon enough...

I did the Slickrock trail on Saturday. My wife and I went solo, figuring there'd be plenty of people up there in case I ran into trouble. As it turned out I ended up tagging along with some "wayalife" folks in lifted Rubicons with 37's. I kept up pretty easily and only sustained a little damage to the bumpers, one fender flair, and the muffler. It was the toughest trail I'd been on. People I met on the way were saying things like "you'll probably need to turn around when you get to the stairs", "I'm surprised you made it this far" and "you're going up the stairs in that?" I had a little difficulty getting up the stairs but I went up the easy way and there was a guy there that ended up doing a great job spotting me and helping me out. All in all a very fun day. I waived to a few campers with cruisers near Lake Alpine and right before the stairs.

My weekend started early. Today, I did a transmission fluid flush and replaced the stock dome light bulbs with 48 LED SMDs. The difference is night and day! Seriously thinking about doing the reverse, brake, park and courtsey lights now!
If anyone is interested, the stock light draws 0.75A @ 12.6V while the 48 LEDs draw 0.2A. Somewhere down the road, I am definitely going to install a 3rd LED as the rear dome light. No worries of overloading the wires.

Took my wife and two of my kids and two of their friends on the "tin cup" orv trail in Luther Mi. Nice having a truck that can haul six people or be a complete camping rig for two.
