I finally got it back from the body shop! After 5 months of fighting with my insurance company they finally agreed to fix it!

I really want to swap to those ↑ headlights!

A job that was waiting to be done for way too long.

Getting these daft 7 screws out was the most stressful part of the whole job. I had Vessel bits especially to mate with the JIS heads and even then all tried to cam out. Finally I came out with the method that worked well for all 7. I rolled (on the creeper) under the vehicle so my legs and hips were under the front axle. Then I could comfortably access the area between the radiator and the oil pump cover and hammer the JIS bit into each screw tightly (multiple taps). Then a socket and 1/4 ratchet and while pushing/keeping the bit tight into the screw head applying a quick 'jerk' to the ratchet to break each free. Was a great feeling as each broke free one by one.

They were replaced with torx head screws so this job will be trivial when done in the (far) future.

Obviously I replaced the crank seal - be crazy not to even though it didn't appear to be the source of the leaks. Picture below is the original prior to pulling out to install the new one.

New o-ring held in place with some vaseline. The old o-ring was dead as a door nail, brittle and broke into pieces as it was removed.

Used a breaker bar to break the crank bolt free (32mm on the S/C setup) and my 'SST' to hold the harmonic balancer assembly in place when re-torquing with a honking 3/4 drive torque wrench.

All up including a fresh oil/filter change it took about 6 hours including time to educate my two sons as they helped. This on a S/C 80 with dual batteries, so a little bit more stuff to deal with to get the radiator shroud off.

cheers,
george.

Just finished up my first real fab job for my 80. I had to lose the running boards cause I kept bending them up, but the wife and kid complained they had a hard time getting into to truck without them. Great excuse to weld up a set of sliders. Here's a teaser while I wait for the paint to dry. I'll go over it with a textured black before I hang them on.

Put my cruiser up on blocks for a few weeks. Began gutting the interior, pressure washed carpet, it's drying.

Removed door panels and disassembled, sent pieces off to musthave for some steel door panels.

It's Monday but I took the day off so it's still the weekend for me. :) About to do an oil change and slap a fumoto drain on (thanks for the idea @NLXTACY).

Just watched the video:

Interesting.... so you are happy with it? Any chance it will get hit offroad, or is it protected pretty well?

Do share, if ya do! :)

You are going to love it. Put the filter adaptor on and you will have three minute oil changes. I may YouTube my next oil change to show how quick my oil changes are now. :grinpimp:
