What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (41 Viewers)

This is my first post to this portion of the forum. I had been collecting parts over the past couple months for one good day of installation. Lots of little outstanding things got done today. :)
I replaced the factory battery to starter cable with a custom 1/0 gauge cable that I made. Also replaced the engine ground cable with a 2 gauge and the battery to body with a 6 gauge. I squirted some silicone lubricant down the throttle cable then covered the last 3' to the engine with heat shrink. The plastic covering was breaking up and I did not want water rusting the throttle cable.
On the inside, I replaced the cigarette lighter with a Blue Seas dual USB connector using the lighter cables. Some minor grinding with a Dremel was all that was needed. I also installed 4 switches for later use - as I had the AC/radio bezel off. Again, the Dremel came into use. Need to make some custom inserts for the switches. Took the center console out as well as the driver and passenger seats and did some vacuuming and cleaning of the front half. Not bad for a 17 year old vehicle. No rust spotted.

Went with the SoCal 80s guys to Santiago Canyon. One  run but still had a good time despite overheating the entire time.

U should now officially change your ringtone to Nelly's "its getting hot in here"..... :D

I washed it. Twice a year whether it needs it or not!

Gave it a bath, did the clay bar but found that my bare spots are all the way through the clear-coat. Might be time to monstaline.

Went down the the Pine Barrens with a couple buddies. Good fun, saw a nice green 80 with a pack of old Jeep comanches, one military, and some Wagoneers (traitor!). Great fire roads, some deep, dark puddles and lots of sand. One buddy has some pizza shops so we made some campfire pizza, which was best pizza ever - I think, there was beer and whiskey too. Truck was great, and got to sleep on S Crowley's drawers: very comfortable and super solid build, I'm very happy with them. Also made some screens with cheap fly screen and magnets for the sliding windows - did the trick.

And I was the green Cruiser with the Wagoneer fleet. I am new to the 80 world, been Jeep guy all my life, and have owned a few full sized Jeeps. Lucky for me the crew I ran with is forgiving, lol. Stock size tires don't go far in some of the holes in the Pines, even with lockers...

Sounds kinda personal "sleeping on Scrowley's drawers".........;)

Looks like it was a good time!

Blew apart my radiator top tank :-(
Sorry to hear that! I started pulling mine apart this weekend from the exact same thing. Mine blew up July 1st, heading home from work. Doing a WHOLE bunch of the "while I'm in there" stuff. Also going to rebuild the front axle while it's out of commission. It's been sitting while I gathered parts and arranged time and place to work on it.

I may have to add the PHH to the list. I thought it had been done by the PO during a HG change about 65K ago. However, after spending time under the hood, I don't think it has ever been changed and I have 221K.

Jeep Pete I figured that was probably the case, glad I found the culprit. You should post a few pics of your friends' trucks, they were awesome (blasphemy, I know :flipoff2:). I thought I was recording with my dash cam when you came by but it was off, and I was bummed not to have captured it that was quite a caravan, esp. the military rig.

I skipped running through some of the bigger 'ponds', and am now glad I did since I'm on open diffs and was a one-truck caravan. I felt particularly ashamed for pulling a u-turn at one of them, heading back to find another route, but I'd probably still be there now since it was a remote spot and had no lockers or winch. Next time I hope to have one or both of those (maybe a snorkel after watching the video of the 40 on the 'mud FB page)

Bilt4me I should have seen that coming, well played. Crowley drawers are still great tho, and silent. Let's see what you can do with that ;)
