Started pulling off the dust cover, planning on using the terrain tamer spindle grease gun when I ran into this. Right under the dust cover. I'm sure it's aftermarket, but anyone know if this is for greasing the wheel bearings or goes all the way into the spindle? I haven't seen or heard of this but once again coming from the 70 series world.

Yes aftermarket. It is called gun drilled. The zerk fitting services the birf, no reason to open the plug on top to fill with grease.

That is awesome. Thanks much. Does it end up greasing the spindle too like the terrain tamer version?

The RCV axles I just put in my LX450 had that fitting. I'm no expert but I believe that path ends up inside the birfield cup. I don't think it will get grease to the wheel bearings, but I could be wrong.

Correct...when I rebuilt mine due to a failed oil seal in the axle and after cleaning out the joint, I used the zerk to fill the joint on the bench to make sure it was fully loaded before re-installing. It's a nice upgrade to have this as the fresh grease goes directly into the bearings/joint and pushes out, rather than just getting packed around the outside from the top fill hole. Just be sure to use the same grease that is in the joint in your gun...I prefer the Valvoline Palladium with 3% Moly additive, not just your traditional wheel bearing/u-joint stuff....I keep 2 guns loaded, one with u-joint grease and 1 with the Palladium.

I made a new skid plate to replace the OEM plate.

3/16" steel. I used black Appliance Epoxy paint. I typically use Rustoleum Flat Black but figured I would give this a try. It's very glossy and does not lay as smoothly as the Rustoleum Professional line.

I don't know if anyone else has had an issue with their dorkel but mine broke in half. It failed around one of the threaded nuts and the crack propogated around the top and bottom.

I figured the replacement would be exactly the same as the original. Nope. I had to drill all new holes in my fender and enlarge the original 4 inch hole by 3/8". It's all covered up by the snorkel but it still is very frustrating.

Going down the rabbit hole of sound! I’ve done just the mat with a foam layer on my last 2 cruisers on this one I’m going to try something different. I’m filling the giant echo chambers that the cruiser has stating with the rockers and above the rear fender and the rear pillar. It has actually made a pretty big difference with the old knuckle test. I did notice less tire noise this morning on the way to work. Make sure to take the seat belt out and wrap a bag around them

Wouldn't that trap moisture?

Is that expandable foam? If so, I would keep a close watch on water intrusion. The sliding window frames and rear vents are a known source for water pooling in the quarter panels. The foam may trap moisture causing rust and carpet mold.
Beat me to it; TXMeatball is thinking the same.

It could but I have went threw and sealed the holes on the bottom of the rockers the fender and the pillars shouldn’t have water in them if you do there’s a problem

Picking up a 2014 subaru outback made me realize that even an old 80 series isn't all that loud. My 80 series definitely transfers less road noise than the subie.

I’m trying to get to that g wagon status lol I just want it quite for those long trips with 37s there’s a lot of tire noise filling that gap between the out fender and the door jam really did cut down on the tire drown.

I've been getting it ready to sell. I just don't have the space and time right now. :(
