They are foam blocks that dampen the tail gate lock rods.

The connecting rods from the handle to the latches on each side have enough play in them to rattle around. Got tired of hearing it rattle when shutting the tailgate. The silencer blocks wrap around the rods and adhere to inner tailgate surface. The adhesive is marginal so I used a little 3m spray adhesive applied to the block. They’re just run of the mill polyurethane foam that can be found at a hobby store, in your mattress, etc.
I was wondering if these were installed at the factory or something service centers installed after soccer moms complained of a rattle. Maybe @cruiserdan knows.

That’s kind of surprising as it’s a bit of a bandaid solution and not the best material type choice at that.

It was clear, but windy. You can actually find trona Pinnacles on google maps. They filmed a bunch of movies here so the area is marked on the maps. You can see the pinnacles from the main highway. The area is small and has access from the main highway. Super easy to get here. Got down into the high 30s.
