Finally got 315s mounted and installed, and used it to herd some cattle.

I'm currently running MTR's and I like them but I'm going to be in an area that sees some snow in the winter soon. Wondering if an AT tire wouldn't be a better solution.
I love Duratracs. They have the snowflake rating, and the holes for studs. Really good in rain too.

Nice work - If you haven't already, get some paint on the back side of those welds - mine rusted reasonably quickly and it sits inside, out of the rain and in the south.
Thanks Jeff for that heads up. I was only going to do the outside. Do you think I'll be good paint wise on the inside with some rust reformer, and VHT Epoxy paint?

What brand rebuild kit do you use for the birfs? I've got to do mine soon.

I buy from Cruiser Outfitters on these but I use an OEM felt not the supplied felt in the kit.

Cheers

Nothing too terribly exciting compared to what else is going on round here. Guess that's what happens when you get a vehicle already in great shape. Not to be deterred though, there were a few cosmetic items I needed to take care of.

First up, getting rid of this useless cubby thing.

I'm sure that's not the last money I'll be spending on Wits End as his site has lots of nice goodies.

Next up, I'm missing a lot of the fancy wood trim panels. I'm ok with that as I am most assuredly NOT a fan of wood trim. However, the glue left behind is rather annoying.

I haven't vinyl wrapped anything in a long time, and wasn't great at it, but it's a nice way to dress things up. I'd previously seen some nice brushed metal black vinyl and wanted to try it. I figured I'd try on the wood around the window/lock switches first.

I'm not overly happy with it. Because of the straight line pattern it really shows where I'm not good at stretching the vinyl uniformly and ends up with some waves in places. Also, when the sun hits it, it's a very annoying bright silver color. I'll likely chalk this up to practice and try something else. Also, I noticed the door trim is wood with black paint over it around the buttons, and some of the paint is worn off. Might have to rectify that as well.

Also, I kinda broke the clock trim. I also need practice on these contours. I went back and watched some more videos and feel I can do better next time. Also, my hand was shaking when cutting and came out badly. Will redo later.

And then there was this annoying thing. Someone did a good job with the foam stuff but really, the part is cheap. I've done a lot of fiche reading to order parts for my motorcycles but a car fiche is a different animal. This gave me some experience looking up and finding parts I need. I found the part number, checked ebay and found I could get a used one for $17 or I could order a new one for $20. Franklin Toyota had the best price to my door so they got the order. It's like 20 miles each way through Dallas traffic to get to my nearest dealer so I'd rather pay shipping than deal with that.

I've been making a list of tiny things that need doing. It's going to be a fun truck.

Someone in this thread stated that it was primarily “Mexican” or “Latino” shooters because “that is their culture”. Shockingly, nobody on this forum defended them or got offenddd by that statement. Unlike the shooters getting all offended by your statement.

Thank you and everyone else that cleans up after the lazy, goodfornothing, a$$holes that leave trash behind.

For the record, the majority of us know that you don’t post about this for a “statue” but rather to raise awareness that if people don’t start pitching in and picking up them eventually trails will get closed.

This is exactly where I started when I got my LX in good shape...the creature comforts. Then I found @NLXTACY on his glorious wits end website and the inevitable March towards over landing perfection and glory has begun (on a budget of course!).

Fabricated a wind deflector to my Rhino rack.
First attempt to weld aluminum, actually brazing it.
The plastic was cut using a laser, the bottom has a curve and the top corners have a radius to minimize wind noise.
The bottom is covered with a rubber grommet to protect the roof paint.
The whole thing could be mounted in minutes.
The attaching points double as a tying points for equipment.

Quick overnight in Death Valley with the family, was also the first time with the Hilux ARB bumper I finished cutting to fit. (The color was a...family decision lol. Never ask an 8 year old girl for paint recommendations...but it makes her so happy. I also kinda like keeping up the Lexus stereotype :flipoff2:)

Do you have any other pictures of your front bumper? I am also looking into doing something similar. Does the Hilux model fit better then a 100 series ARB?
The ARB delux for the 80 series is nice but plain.
Thanks

I can't speak to the 100 series, getting this to fit was more work than I anticipated but overall fairly straightforward. It started with this forsale thread....
The dry fit didn't go well haha.

Next I tried to make only the center bar work, but it was too low and forced the whole bumper too far forward.
1604594473625.png

Once I committed to cutting everything off the top it went a little easier.
1604594535097.png

I welded in mounting plates and a wing reinforcement on each side as I had to cut a lot of the internal bracing out.

And this is how it ended...I'm pretty happy as I wanted a project and I wanted to offset it for my body lift.

My 80 came with the same kenwood stereo. Now if I could just figure out how to convert it from German language to english then I would like it more.

Hey not for everyone, but it has a purpose. Nice job on that front bumper. I’m sold on the WNOR sliders...ordering mine before the Christmas rush. How are you liking those tires? I loved the Falken AT3’s, but hadn’t heard as good a things about the MT’s...
Thanks! Um well i have gotten stuck on 12” of snow when the ground was frozen underneath. I dont have much snow experience so theres that. In sand, dirt, rocks and such they work well. Not too loud either and they are old. My buddy seems to think they are great, but suck balls on ice, but does anything not suck in ice? They tend to dig, in soft sand or dirt that isnt hard i will make my own holes if im hung up a lil.

ill build my own sliders, as i built both my bumpers. Sliders should be easy and i will make them bolt on. Sucks metal is so high in price, but is what it is.

Looks good, have you considered adding some anti deer hoops to protect the grill and lights from roadkill?

In regards to building your own sliders. I built mine and it was a great project. But I only ended up saving $250.00 and that was before steel prices went up. You might want to figure out your costs to build and compare them to the cost of buying.

The user manual is downloadable, here is a link to a screenshot on the instructions to do the factory reset. Might be fun if you don't speak German, but it's only really a couple of steps, then find the option in the menu to do the reset. Should be able to get it done though.

It's not a bad unit, but I might replace it with something to allow at least a backup camera. My wife's car has one and I've become spoiled.
