Waiting on paint to dry...

cruiser dan Hey, instead of msg.ing or starting a new thread, the Anniversary Editions... was that a release limited to the States alone. I mean, Australia got an edition, badging, color unique their respective market... but allow me to ask is there a comprehensive history or written account exploring the history of the Land Cruiser?

I have read bits and pieces over the years but as these things go I realize most of the history is a verbal thing quickly lost. Is there anyone you are aware of or in the process of documenting the history in something I can throw on the coffee table and leave out for the kid to read when he is bored? All jokes aside, has there been a critical written account of the Land Cruiser?

Apologies to the thread.

So sad but true.

The Land Cruiser was not designed to be "good enough" it was designed to be the best possible vehicle made. It really offends me to see how it has been cheapened by those who want to play the game but are not willing to pay what it takes to maintain the level of perfection designed and originally produced.
Mr. T gets plenty of my money. The only time I don't buy from him is if he no longer makes a part or if I can get a very similar part with the same name as OEM on it. No chicom parts on my rig except maybe the goodyear floormats.

Hey whats that mess catching stuff you got down?

It’s awesome stuff! Not super cheap but better than cardboard and works really well.

In an effort to be price competitive with the aftermarket TMS USA now pushes less expensive Chicom maintenance items instead of the more expensive high-quality Japanese components. Sad actually.

Your two plus decade old 80 did not make it this far on knock off parts.

Any other examples like the wiper blades where Toyota has gone the way of China.com? Wiper blades I can live with, but other parts... I'm curious because I buy OEM whenever I can.

One other example I can think of off the top of my head are 80 series oil filters. Made in Thailand.

Thanks.

Most did in fact make it on knock off parts, if they ever received any maintenance at all. Not saying OEM isn't superior by any means, just stating.

Finally finished my Dobinson lift. It's their +2" variable taper springs and their long-travel shocks (4-5" up front and 6-7" in the rear). Obviously, more than 2" of lift were gained. The truck has original springs with 190k miles and measured approx. 19" center of hub in front and 20" center of hub in the rear. Afterwards, 23" up front and 25" in the rear.

I expect they will settle more with miles and once I start adding to the truck.

Still on stock-sized tires, but the 35" MTs are in the garage waiting to be mounted on Monday. WKOR sliders are also waiting to be installed.

Theres an assortment pack at your local O'Reilly that will have that clip in it.

My son is going to take over my current 96 FZJ80 I’ve built up over a year ago so I’ve been looking for a clean white FZJ80 for awhile. I found a clean one and drove it home last weekend.

The previous own had and ok sound system and the install was not very clean. Being and audiophile I wanted to tackle the sound system first.

I didn’t take a picture before taking the tweeter out at the a pillar. I needed to fill the hole left from the tweeter do I found a grill just like the current Landcruiser and did this:

Looks good, link to where to buy this grill? Anymore pics of the install?

Hit the 85k mark on the way from seattle to Bend, OR.
New motor has now almost been broken in at 600 miles .
Averaged 14.7 with a roof box going 75 on cruise with the A/C on!

Also found some play in my knuckles 9to3 wise .time to retorque hub nuts in the parking lot. Guess the new bearings seated more!

Did you happen to grab hug to fender measurements? Looks like about 4 inches of lift to me.
