Scotchlocks suck.

Ok, with that preliminary stated... Friday, driving along and noticed the EGT gauge wasn't operating. Ok, something to do on the w/end.

We had done a fairly long road trip to drop off a bed from my younger son at a friend's warehouse near Sac, so quite a bit of fuel used. Anyhow, next morning son borrows the 80 then comes back saying that the fuel transfer wasn't happening when he pressed the button (main tank down to yellow light). Hmm, ok, check it, yep, no fuel transfer. Ok, fine, he takes the jeep instead (full tank).

So, look over my notes and notice that I had taken power from both the EGT gauge and the subtank transfer module from the same point. Hmm.... many many years ago.... hmm... scotchlock probably?? Open up the DS kickpanel and look for the wire splice - yep, POS scotchlock. Jiggle it and gauge works, fuel transfer works when button pressed.

Remove scotchlock and toss in bin, replace with a posi-tap! Should be good forever now.

Pays to document any wiring you add - you'll pat yourself on the back when years later you need to figure out a problem.

The 80 hit 120k km's/74.5k miles(purchased at 115k km) so did the first oil change since ownership. Replaced all interior, exterior bulbs including headlights with LED, with the exception of headlight fogs(factory equipped on my fzj81). Couldn't find H3C LED conversions that had a built in cooler/fan for some reason.

On the topic of factory fogs, does anyone know where to connect auxiliary fogs that are switched on using the bottom of the factory 3 position fog switch? Top position turns on headlight fogs, center is off, and from what I've read on here the bottom turns on auxiliary fogs usually mounted to bumper?

Finally done! Total of 18 hrs start to finish. That’s probably twice as long as it should take but I don’t work the fastest. And was quite a bit rusty. And I painted stuff. Only damaged one seal and it probably would’ve been fine if I had left it but since I had some on hand I swapped it out.

She stops on a dime.

And filled the diff with the oil pump that @LandCruiserPhil recommnded a couple of years ago. Filled the front diff in about 3 minutes. I had forgotten I had it!

All new axle seals, bearings (saved the old Koyo bearings for spares for the next kit if they are needed), new rotors, new calipers, new pads, new brake fluid.

And shout out to Joey aka @NLXTACY for the reference guide and Kurt aka @cruiseroutfit.

But the biggest shout out to Onur aka @beno. Walked me through multiple steps I wasn’t confident in. Thanks bro!

Hit the 85k mark on the way from seattle to Bend, OR.
New motor has now almost been broken in at 600 miles .
Averaged 14.7 with a roof box going 75 on cruise with the A/C on!

Also found some play in my knuckles 9to3 wise .time to retorque hub nuts in the parking lot. Guess the new bearings seated more!

From what I've read any play in the 9 to 3 direction is steering linkage related. 12 to 6 is for the hub bearings.

I did mine in my driveway. I looked like the Clampetts.

As far as parts number...I don’t worry about parts numbers. I call @beno ir @cruiseroutfit when I want parts. It’s their job to know what I need and what part number. I pay them for their expertise not just parts.

Road trip to Long Beach, WA (about 650 miles round trip). Met up with friends and watched the kids play while we drank beers. My buddy broke out the drone and grabbed some photos.

The only downer was hearing the left front tire start to make the "wump wump" noise on the way home, along with some unexpected brake screeches, indicating its time to finally tear into the knuckle rebuild wheel bearing replacement job. I nursed it home because I didn't have the tools with me to try and tighten it up, and nothing was open Sunday evening.

It might be a difficult question to answer by anyone outside your geographical area. I can't recall anyone having factory installed fog lights and that switch.

It seems as if you also have a headlamp washer. In my limited experience with 80 in NA I have not seen anything like you have on your rig.

The OPOR sliders arrived in time for my CO trip. MetalTech was awesome with their communication, i can't say highly enough of these guys.

The sliders went it nicely no problems. Got plenty of clearance between pinch seam and the slider.

Kids happy to have a step again! What would i do differently? I should have probably ran a steel brush wheel since there were weld spatters that i didn't notice until later after the POR15 base (did it at night so no proper lighting), not really an issue since we're talking rock sliders here

Nailed down my L-Track in the cargo area finally. Decided to skip the wood base and mounted straight to the steel floor. Securely mounted the ARB fridge and Subwoofer. Installed ARB fridge power portal under Puma mount and wired everything up nice and tidy.

Installed a 3 outlet AC surge suppressor (1080 joule rating) with built in 4000 mAh USB portable battery pack to accommodate my ARB fridge and CTEK battery charger. Makes the battery much happier over the weekend. The battery removes very easily so I had to tie it in with some paracord. Need to come up with a better (nicer looking) solution to keep it in place while I'm bouncing around. No longer have to raid my work backpack for a USB battery on camping weekends!

The CTEK charger gets pretty warm but does fantastic on the wire rack. Plenty of air flow. Just need to move all the rack pieces around to keep the blanket and jackets away from the warm stuff.

Good to know. I torqued them per the tools method and was surprised I found play in both front wheels 3-9. I'll try to do some research. I felt the tie rods and couldn't feel play .

Got home Sunday and then:
Replaced headlights with superbrightleds low beam bulbs (high beams later)
Installed a set of LED spot lights on front bumper

True, I know NA didn't get the headlight fogs. Thought I'd reach out to the hive mind as I know there's a handful of Oceania folks on here and some that have imported 80's from Japan into NA. I'm having a bumper fab'd up and bought some baja designs fogs for the bumper and would be nice to get to use the switch. Too bad you can't have both the bumper and headlight fogs on simultaneously with factory switch. I'll continue to look for the connector and post up when I do find it.
