@on3i11s there are certain things we don't talk about on here. One of them is if you get stuck and have to be pulled out by different vehicle besides a Land Cruiser.

Hahaha at least it was a Toyota...that made me feel a little less ashamed :flush:

Two other trucks tried to pull me out backwards back up that hill...the first being a small two wheel drive Nissan. the poor guy insisted on trying to pull me out and ended up bending his very puny rear bumper...cruiser didn't budge at all. Next up was the tan ford truck that is in the last pic...he also wanted to try to pull me out backwards and was able to get me to move about an inch. The Tacoma drove around to the front and pulled me out forward! All parties were rewarded with tecate

Well, for my newb post, with my newb 80, I just bought, I went through it, lubed the chassis, changed fluids, need to change belts, took it out right down the road to the closest dirt hill and proceeded to blow out a tire.

They were old and too small, in the next month it's going to get a ome lift, 35"s, 5.29 gears, air locker, air pump and some other basic goodies.

Hope this was where I was supposed to post first. I need to try and figure out how to post pics without photobucket.

:flipoff2: Welcome! That's a nice little list of mods you've got planned! Definitely make sure you do your baselining first though. I just swapped out my belts a few weeks ago...not too bad!

For posting photos, there are orange buttons underneath where you write your comment. Click on the second one called "upload file" and then you can choose photos that you'd like to include in your post. After they upload, don't forget to insert the photos by clicking the "full image" orange button that pops up. Hope this helps

Thanks, I'm on Yellowbullet.com all the time, they seem archaic compared to this site. I love it!

As for another mod i want to do: 6.0/4l80e/np208 I have sitting in my garage. I've been reading up on them in here allllll week. It doesn't look easy, but I own almost all the parts but unsure how I feel about the np208 as it does not have bolt on unolt flanges.

If I go all out with that swap, I may go coilover all the way around, but both of those things are future worries as long as my engine runs right. At 259k miles though, it's a time bomb. Until then, I'll just ease it along and take care of it.

Spent Labor Weekend at Coyote Lake for my 1st time. Had a blast! put some new dents in Succubus, caught a monster trout, hiked to the highest point to take a awesome selfie hahahaha!

this grille is apples and oranges to the factory its wide open so airflow is improved big time, yet the honeycomb dosent make it "see thru" Ya Dig???
Where does one obtain said grille?

Welcome to the site. Not sure how familiar you are with the sturdy FZJ80, but most on here would likely agree that with 259k youve still got a lot of life yet. With semi-decent regular maintenance your engine may not even be approaching its first rebuild yet.

Yeah but aren't those 37's for a 16.5 wheel? I am pretty sure that was the big argument when you could get 37's on double deadlock hummer wheels for super cheap but had to spend $700 on the adapters.

Yes.... 16.5 rims, which have become much more reasonable in price.

Drove around during tropical storm Lidia to check things out.

Snorkel - dorkel, who needs one....okay maybe I do actually want to install one after this water crossing

Then proceeded to get stuck during tropical storm Lidia.

Definitely learned to never let your guard down that day. I was stuck behind a major river wash for 3 hours (tried passing through twice to no avail). After the water had settled down and I was able to cross, I was so excited to get back home that I was not cautious enough to notice this little drop within 200 yards of my house. The sand/gravel/mud buried my tires within minutes. All I can say is that the locals down here in Baja sur went above and beyond to attempt getting me out. Thank god my neighbors had a 4 wheel drive Tacoma!

What an embarrassment...... looks to me like the kid in the F150 is laughing at you! AND you post it on mud????!!!!

I will be looking for a write up about this sir!
Have you taken it out for a spin enough to get an idea if you get MPG saving? any other comments about the switch to part-time?

I have taken the truck around for couple of hours, it feel much lighter. I am installing 6 inch lift and this is part one of the install that could prevent vibration down the road.

I used this video for installation:

The dislike for 16.5" wheels certainly isn't the cost or the availability. 16.5" wheels (or any xx.5" wheel that I know of) has a different bead design that is ideal for heavy loads, but HORRIBLE for bead-retention when there is anything less than full street pressure in the tire. The bead design also makes it tough to run a traditional outer-ring style beadlock wheel (people do it, but it's not a good solution IMO.) I think the only way anyone on this site should consider 16.5s for a Cruiser is if they have the internal, military style double beadlock wheels - That's where the $700 adapters (or custom-centered HMMWV/humvee wheels) come in to play.

You really need to rethink the regearing.
On 35's you don't really needed if you are a flat lander. At the most 4.88 for 35's.

If you will run a V8 you don't need to rehear at all. Do a lot of homework before you start throwing money away for no reason.
Look a the donor truck's final gear ratios and the tire size and figure out what the necessary gear you need to run on your LC. Usually with a V8 swap 4.11's are perfect.

That shows how new you are here. Time bomb at only 259k miles? :slap:

Thank you, I couldn't understand what the downside of running 16.5" rims was. But, it does make sense now.
*for whatever it's worth- the adapters around here are about $200 for set of 4, usually a pair on C/L daily. (I'm perfectly happy running my 33/10.50/15's, when I was younger I'd run the biggest lift and tires I could fit! I've smartened up with age! Lol)

I'm posting this for a "friend".

My "friend" replaced his AC condenser that required removing the top cross support and hood latch. My "friend" went out this morning to open the hood and nothing budged. My "friend" assumed that he had done something wrong during reassembly and proceeded to take it all apart. My "friend" spent several minutes trying to recall which direction to pry the latch open and how to do it. My "friend" walked to the back of the cruiser to get a tool and noticed his fuel door was opened.

My "friend" is a nice guy, but not the sharpest tool in the box.

This is exactly why before I start any troubleshooting I always tell myself "self, start with the easiest thing first....."

I've been in similar situations before :frown:

Lol. I wish I could make my brain work that way. Instead it goes "well we both know you are a moron so the mistake you made was obviously of the worst most complicated kind. Better get to work."

hey! My rig is at 263k right now...I can't say she is running perfect but then again that's probably my fault. Yes I have oil leaks, an unbearable exhaust rattle, and now a leaky power steering pump (user-error) but she's done pretty well so far. Just keep the maintenance up to date as best as possible.

Haha, I'm a teacher so that little kid doesn't phase me...I'm used to kids laughing at me (all in good humor) ... I think the f150 should be embarrassed - he was unable to pull me out with his big truck :flipoff2:

This is like having your little brother beat up the bully that is picking on you!

Little brother gets the credit this time! I'm just glad it wasn't a jeep :ban:

Well, I've had 5.3 tuned/long tubes/intake/3" exhaust on 35's and 4.56 gears and it needed more when towing. I know a 5.3 is not a 6.0 though. I don't know when or if the ls swap will happen.

I tow a jumping jack and some gear, but shooting up the steep mountains, I'd like to be able to pull them without straining the motor/trans.
4.88 on 35's equals 411 on 31's and I'd like a little more gear. I drove it around last night, and it's peppy for its power level.

That shows how new you are here. Time bomb at only 259k miles? :slap:
Well good. This is where I'd be happy being wrong.

I need to get my swap stuff up to 100% before I'd even attempt. I have wiring, exhaust (some of it I'm sure won't work, but it's from an ls in a 1993 truck with 4x4 and an ls swap/80e that I decided to not finish.)

of it's another 12k miles or more, then I should have most of my ducks in a row.
