Started on a front end rebuild on the green 96. Should have been done a week ago but have been working on my daughter's bf's crappy Merc Sable. New struts all around. What a total POS machine and approach to building a car. Anyway, that's out of the way and the 80 is next up. We are leaving for Drummond Island in it in 3 days and my list of to-do's is HUGE. I have tried to adhere to the rule of not wrenching on the truck right before a trip but no choice now. I'll be taking lots of tools and checking torque on stuff, especially the steering knuckles!

A freaking Mercury Sable?! I can only imagine your disappointment in your daughter...

Im defintely heading to bear pass is that Or. or wyoming. ?
Black bear pass is in Colorado. It has beautiful views, but it can get really sketchy with the switchbacks. I've heard as long as you keep a cool head, you'll probably be fine. If you panic and do something stupid, you're probably going to die. I've never done it and I kind of want to but some of the stories have me thinking twice about it. Some of those switch backs have very little clearance to a straight drop off of a couple hundred feet. I probably wouldn't do it unless I went with an experienced group. Definitely do some reading on it first.

Sounds like a blast. There are tons of mountain ghost towns in Colorado. I'm hoping to make a trip through them next year

I put in a new radio, Kenwood ddx9903s , 4 speakers, front I used the Polk db + 5.25inch and for the back I used the same polk db+ but the 4 inch and fit it inside the basket the old one was in. Like Texasknowhow did . One 12 inch woofer, Polk MM1240 , 1 amp , front and rear camera's. I also had the o-ring kit installed in the a/c unit , changed the license plate bulb and added a extra cigarette - dual usb connection for charging .
I like the Ben Harper! With my own two hands! Perfect!

Bought some Prestone's 2in1 cooling system flush. Planning to back flush then run it for a couple of days with just water and the prestone stuff. No idea if this stuff is snake oil but i feel it can't do any harm.
My plan is to use distilled water but about 50% of search results say dont do it because it can harm the engine block. What say ye good folk?

Yes the new db+ is even shorter in depth than the older db's . In the front you need to add a ring to fill in the space where they bent the metal in around the original speaker . If you click on my photo it will take you to my f photo flickr if you click on the back arrow next to the photos you can see all the photos I took and how it fits with the ring spacer . In the back there is a plastic piece that holds the grill on . The speaker fits in at plastic piece . The original speaker is held in the plastic piece with a single screw in the middle of the back of the speaker . All you have to do is cut the very back plate that the screw went through because the new db+ is just a little longer so once the back plate is cut out the new db+ will fit in perfect There is photos of that too on flickr . On the back you don't even have to take the panel off. You just unsnap the bottom half pull the plastic back enough to unplug the wire . the speaker and plastic piece will come out with 3 screw its all inside the cut out of the panel . If the wire connection wasn't so far away from the speaker hole you wouldn't even have to unsnap anything but the connection is down at the opening in the bottom front corner .It took me about 3 minutes and the old speaker and plastic piece was out . Cutting the plastic piece was pretty easy also . Here is what the plastic piece will look like once its cut . IMG_2108 by myridevlx600, on Flickr, You have to cut one of the plastic arms all the way off to make room for the capacitor . You can see it in this photo . IMG_2110 by myridevlx600, on Flickr . When thats out of the way the speaker drops right in . I just bent 2 of the tabs over ans driled a small hoe in the tab and the plastic piece to hold it in place . If you watch texasknowhow's youtube video He just used silicone caulking to hole it in place . Texasknowhow mademe the rings for the front and they fit perfect he has it down pat and is making them for people . There is his video . He used the older db speakers that have a different look and size so he had to do a 2 ring system to give the speaker but with the new one you only need one ring and the panel and grill fits over the speaker . On the back speaker he had to cut the arms out of the plastic piece because the older db's had a bigger magnet the new ones fit right in and the arms help hold the new speakers in place .

How are those running boards working for you?

He is planning on selling it soon. He appreciates MrT after being around me and the vehicles I allow the family to drive. I told him if he wants my help in the future, it has to be a Toyota or Lexus.

Finally broke down and joined the two-tone club. My fender flares had a bad issue with peeling clear coat. While I had everything apart I also added some lights to help me spot stumps and rocks in the woods at night. Next up will be the Prinsu rack I just ordered:clap:

Finished the Aux fuse box isolation project that will hopefully stop me returning to a flat house battery every time I abandon her at the airport. I opted for the relay solution rather than the circuit breaker primarily because I can wire the relay to a switch I already had in my centre console. Tested and works a charm...:)
Mounted the relay on the fire extinguisher mount I got from @NLXTACY . Not sure he had this kind of application in mind but it worked for me.:flipoff2:
