Installed this add a leaf in the rear. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ran-rs60612

Kinda hard to see it the picture but it is sitting a little high in the back. I expect it to settle out nicely.

New shocks front and rear. While being very cheap these are a big improvement over the 30 year old shocks.

Up next is a new radiator, water pump and radio.

Have a great week!
txnight, did you reuse the hardware (pins, bushings, u-bolts)? You mentioned that you used new spring clamps to hold the spring packs back together, but was wondering whether or not you were able to reuse the other hardware...

None of the original hardware was saved or reused. New U bolts came from Cool Cruisers for about $60.

Here are the steps I followed for the AAL.

1. Take off wheel and tire. I only did one side at a time to help keep the axle from getting away from me while it rested on jackstands.
2. Cut off the original u bolts
3. Put C clamps around the springs and lowered the axle.
4. Hammered, hit, cussed the spring pin out.
5. Pried open and then cut off the stock spring clamp. The spring pack with the AAL is too tall for the spring clamps to be reused.
6. Slowly loosened the C clamps and slipped in the AAL in the bottom of the pack.
7. Installed spring centering pin included in the AAL Kit.
8. Tightened back up the C Clamps.
9. Raised the axle back up and installed new U bolts.
10. Installed spring clamps.
11. Put the wheel and tire back on.

Let me know if I can help with anything else.

OK. Thanks, I just might. I'm putting together a plan this summer to address the OEM suspension...so I might tag you when I throw up the post for input from MUD.

-Cheers

Swapped out the bad smog pump looks pretty new but oh well replaced it with a used smog pump provided by landcrusher909 who also helped get it out or point at what needed to be pulled. Managed to get it out without pulling anything besides disconnecting the power steering line

Also did a compression test for the first time dry and cold

I know it's a little low but at least it's all about the same!

Ordered a new mirror, a new front marker lamp, started working on new rear cargo panels, put my cruiser name on, and found this little darling hiding under the center console.

Now I need to find a way to attach her somewhere in the rig. Since I found her hiding inside, View attachment 1059718 View attachment 1059719 View attachment 1059722 do I need to change my cruiser's name?
Right now it is "Rex", short for Toyotasaurus Rex. "Kitty" just doesn't have the same ring.

This would be a good idea for post titled craziest things found in your cruiser! I haven't found a kitty but did find long snake skin wrapped up with the wiring harness in 78 fj40! And, rushed myself to the e - room after finding hornets in the glove box.

Last weekend I found some pizza crust lodged between the PS engine block and the dizzy cap (or was it the oil filter...). Must have been a squirrel's stash....I didn't eat it, though...but not out of respect for the squirrel (finders keepers)...just cuz it was stale.

More body work and little adjustments....

However...HELP! In my little adjustments I snapped the bolt head off of my rear wiper. Does anyone have a suggestion to replacing the bolt or am I now in the market to buy a motor and linkage?

Not low for a cold engine, but should be done hot and all lubed up. I'd be happy with those numbers, considering the age of the engine.

Oh well awesome then I just didn't run it hot because I didn't have everything completely back together wasn't sure how much of a difference warm vs cold would be. But you learn something new everyday! Glad to hear from someone else that those are still good numbers! Since I can sleep soundly with the engine now onto the locker and lift and safety/recovery gear and I'm ready for the trails

so drillduty...tell me about those awesome rock sliders you got there.
