My girl and I own an art distribution co. In Grants Pass OR and had a sales appointment in Santa Rosa CA on Friday. Decided to take the 60 all the way Dow the coast.
Our route took us from Grants Pass out 199 to the 101. We drove south on the 101 to Legget CA where we picked up the 1. We drove the 1 from Legget to Bodega Bay, then headed inland to Santa Rosa. On the return trip we took the same route up the coast to Gold Beach Or then headed over the mountains via the Bear Camp rd. Found the spring snow up top. Had a blast. The ol fj ran tip top. Here's a few pics...

I hauled some gravel, changed front calipers( easiest ever, painted them blue for giggles), and synchronized my odometer. image.jpg image.jpg

Ordered a new mirror, a new front marker lamp, started working on new rear cargo panels, put my cruiser name on, and found this little darling hiding under the center console.

Now I need to find a way to attach her somewhere in the rig. Since I found her hiding inside,

do I need to change my cruiser's name?
Right now it is "Rex", short for Toyotasaurus Rex. "Kitty" just doesn't have the same ring.

upgrade to hella h4 headlights, spray painted the headlight bezels dark gray and cleaned up the signal lenses. Today was open season for trout fishing and all the fire roads closed for the winter opened up...found me some great hiking trails and this natural waterfall

Picked-up some freshly powder coated parts and start the wonderful job of cleaning wires/connections in the engine bay.

Finally got around to puttin in my Ultimate Harness and the Hell 500FF that I got before Christmas. Just got to finish up the wiring in the morning. Will be running a stock defroster switch for the light switch!!

Oil change on two FJ60s, one FZJ80, and a Miata. Replaced the clutch master and slave on the '85 FJ60. Installed 4Runner brake booster and master cylinder on the '85. Have had the 4Runner calipers for a few years and some aftermarket 4Runner master cylinder which was beginning to show signs of seal leakage. It was replaced with an Aisan unit. Half-way through swapping out the air filter on the '85's 2F I had to stop and catch this guy.

There was a small delay in replying to your post. Had to run to Best Buy and purchase a new laptop b/c I shot my screen 13 times when I first saw that picture:moon:

So what is he? Has a nose like the Hognose snakes but I don't think the hognose has the color scheme. Definitely not an AZ snake. Our's
all seem to have rattly thingy's on their butts

You would have liked my pet Gila Monster

This is an eastern hognose. Coloration in this species may range from the black seen here to dark gray to a blotchy brown-yellowish-black pattern. The upturned snout is distinctive and often they put on a good display of spreading the neck, striking, but without biting, and feigning death. Regionally often called the "spreadin' adder" and considered deadly pizznous but they are in fact harmless.

We have a couple of adult Gila monsters in the Auburn University live collections. They may be venomous but are hardly dangerous as they're little more than bit fat lethargic slugs.

What, no mil-spec bullet proof laptop . I see that I need to make another trip to LA so that we can go out and do a little snake catchin'. :D

So it was a hognose. The Gila Monsters are technically illegal to own but Phoenix was expanding so rapidly that they were popping up in urban areas. Mostly getting in losing battles with cars. I tried relocating them farther out when I could but from what I read they, like rattlesnakes, don't relocate well. I kept a large one as a pet for a couple years then gave it to the zoo. It did well on raw hamburger with raw egg kneaded into it. I was trapping rattlesnakes for the ASU venom lab from the time I was 14. A friend's neighbor was a herpetologist and would pay us 5.00~ 10.00 for a snake and .25 each for scorpions. We had scorpion traps all over the surrounding desert. We'd haul in 4 ~6
snakes on a good weekend and a few dozen scorpions. Some of that money went to my first FJ40 right after my eighteenth birthday...
We kept it mostly on the sly...moms don't like their kids doing that kind of work
