I replaced the high pressure power steering line on my '88 62.

I hope to never have to do that again.

Well last weekend was stripping carpet and pad. What a pain. This weekend i :

Replaced the low pressure line from my PS pump to my PS cooler on my '85 60.

Also thanks to all the awesome info on this site I was able to get my carb fan working, so thanks for that ih8mud community!!!

Was stoked and the dogs wanted an adventure day so this happened...

I removed the clamshells on the steering column, and removed a ounce of stiff grease and dog hair from the turn signal area, since the stalk felt rather 'gooey' when you operated it. I used q-tips soaked in brake cleaner for this. I also pulled the ignition cylinder (just the key cylinder part) and hosed it down with a silicone spray. Now the ignition key turns easily and doesn't feel gooey, either.

Finally, I started to debug the dealer-installed cruise control on my FJ62 and determined that there is no VSS or driveshaft speed sensor control, which has to be one of the reasons it doesn't work. I found an installation manual for this cruise control (made by Dana) at: http://www.rostra.com/manuals/250-1223Form4565G.pdf

This cruise control manual is somewhat newer than my unit, but wire colors, the DIP switch, etc. all check out. Sure beats nothing. I have another old Dana cruise unit I can use for parts.

Is there a high quality cruise that really works on 60's?

Here's a couple more...
Is that a photo of you or one of the dogs?

Finally got my 2f buttoned up and ready to go get smogged, It was a long term project which included rebuilding the carb, pulling the intake and exhaust manifolds fixing cracks and getting them machined. Sourcing various smog parts and hoses that are discontinued to get the emissions system put back together correctly. It's taken awhile but it's worth doing right since I can't desmog.

And of once we had the emissions done and wrapped up the waterpump decided to say goodbye, and I learned how much fun it is to change a waterpump on a SOA rig.

In the end I have to say my 2f is running so much smoother than it has since I got the rig.

My suspension fell off, then I welded it back on. Yes my camera sucks.

JC Whitney shows this brand (Dana) of Cruise Control, now sold as 'Rostra'. They claim it won't fit an FJ60/2, but it will. I installed a similar Cruise control on my FJ40 in the 1990s, and it worked fine. It's US made and pretty well engineered. You have the main control box, a tach sensor, a road speed sensor, a brake light sensor, and bunch of wiring and fuses - it's fairly complicated, because it has to be. Some operate electrically, and some operate with engine vacuum (to pull open the throttle) as well as with electronics.

Fixed my cigarette lighter plug. Could not figure out why the phone charger would not power up even though the 12v wire showed power to the plug. Turns out the positive terminal inside the plug had corroded. The entire plug assembly comes apart easily and once I hit the terminal with a dremel wire wheel it worked fine. An easy fix to something that has been annoying me for some time.

Drove it over 1000 miles and it didn't skip a beat except for getting a little hot, but that's expected holding 3500-3700 rpms for extended periods of time in the middle of a Florida day. Maybe I need a 5-speed... :hmm:

Kind of a shame I'm pulling this motor next month.

But... 275K miles, original oil galley plug, 8000 miles since the last change. I think it has 50/50 synthetic/conventional. Headgasket is probably shot.

Honestly it runs great though.

Pulled this out.....

Planning to follow Major Nelson's approach with sound deadening material and new carpets. Hope I can do as nice a job as he did.
