I hadn't done a whole lot to the cruiser of late, but this weekend has been quite a productive one. I installed a whole bunch of tie down tracks in the back so that I can eventually put together a cargo net to keep all my camping crap from flying around in the event of an accident. Sans net, it's already been quite useful for restraining my milk crate of tools and the Engel fridge. I then installed an Aussie locker in the rear and took it for a test drive with great results. Then, being annoyed at the feel of my floppy steering, lack of horn, and sticky turn signal (and the recent addition of my key not turning the ignition) I tore the steering column apart, cleaned everything, re-soldered the connection I broke, tightened some bolts I didn't know about that magically fixed my steering issues, and went a good round with the dealer over a factory replacement key. Key is still in the works, but since the dealer has to order the key and can't look up the code off my vin, I'v decided to just go with a local lock smith. I'm not a fan of our dealer or their parts people, so I'd rather do the work to get into my passenger door and give my money to the mom and pop lock smith over the dealer that is forever trying to push me into a brand new truck I don't want.

Anyway, It's been a damn good weekend, and most of it wouldn't have come off if it weren't for this place and it's well of incredibly useful information (such as keep the steering wheel nut a couple threads on so I don't break my nose when I pull the wheel off).

Thanks all!
Clark

Can you give some info on the tracks you used?

Last weekend i did my version of Black Friday shopping - ordered five Stealth Custom F5 wheels for my truck. They arrived Today!

The photos don’t do them justice, they are even sexier in person. These are the ‘matte gun metal’ color.

Threw one on my truck to check fit and, HALLELUJAH!, they clear everthing including my 4runner calipers. These are 17 x 9’s btw and have the correct 3.5” back spacing.

They’re at the tire shop as we speak being fitted with some 285/70/17’s. Can’t wait to get them mounted up!

Cheers!

They are called L-Track's. They are the same system used to attach aircraft seats in commercial airlines, things like that. I'v found them to be incredibly useful since I can put rings anywhere along and are slimline enough to be out of the way when I am not using them. I actually inherited them from a buddies project, so I don't have much opinion on a best source, but here are some pretty identical versions of what I used:

Single point versions...https://www.amazon.com/Round-Anchor...=1543528619&sr=8-7&keywords=l+track+tie+downs

Tracks...https://www.amazon.com/US-Cargo-Con...=1543541954&sr=8-8&keywords=l+track+tie+downs

I put in rivnuts to screw them into so that I wouldn't have to deal with trying to get to the backing to put a wrench on a nut, which also makes them fairly removable should I need to pull up the carpet or something like that.

Love those tie down tracks. I haven't installed any yet in my 60 but have had them on other things. I want to eventually install them to have quick release boxes and storage that I can quickly remove. Great idea and cool truck!

yup I have played with those in the past. You can buy them direct from US Cargo Controls website along with TONS of other attachments, rail types, etc.

If you missed my earlier post these are SCS F5 wheels in matte gun metal, 17 x 9 with 285 70 17 tires.

I’m very happy with them so far.

Paint and body work next...

Cheers!

The wheels look great. Paint? Sure doesn’t look like it needs paint.

Thanks for that! The paint does look good from 10’ away and the white color is very forgiving. But in reality it’s really showing it’s age. Lots of small scratches that are starting to rust, lots of dings. Plus, it will be an opportunity to replace all the weatherstrip and tighten her back up a bit.
