What did you do with your 60 this weekend? (15 Viewers)

I got my driver door window back on track. It's been rattling around worse and worse over the last few weeks, but last week it finally came totally off the track and would only go halfway down and 3/4 up so I had to lock it in the back yard where it was safe until I could work on it.

The first revelation of the day was how easy it is to get the retainer clip off the window crank handle using a rag instead of fishing around for it with a hook. I've had the panels off both front doors several times and always used the hook. I feel like an idiot for not trying a rag sooner.

Once I had the door panel off, I could see that the window wouldn't roll down all the way because it was hitting the speaker in the door. That lead to the second revelation of the day: that the Al & Ed's Autosound installer who put my speakers in years ago was a hack. I already knew he was a hack by the gouge he put in my dashboard putting the head unit in, but the way he installed the speaker confirmed it: he drilled holes in the door panel and used drywall screws. What a dickhead.

I pulled the speaker out far enough to get the window all the way down, then finagled and finessed the window up and down and back and forth until I got it back in the track and I was back in business.

Then I buttoned everything up and I'm calling it a win for the weekend.

Finally after a month( 3 day rush in postal terms )I got my new 12HT throttle return springs. Thanks to CruiserWorld in the EU. My little toe won’t fall asleep pushing the heavy temporary springs any more!

Felt like I needed a little more chrome in my life. So I found some nice 1980’s chrome to swap with my blacked out front grill and light surrounds.

I think it looks good either way, but the black just seemed to get lost in the 6v7 dark green paint job. The new old chrome front helps it out I think.

I even got some shiny new old snake blinders. Just need to clean them up, get some new clips and pop them on. Pics to follow when I get them restored.

Hey @Aloha Jen: So I just installed my new 62 CHROME mirrors. I see you have black ones. Since you like chrome, wanna trade?

Nevermind. You know it doesn’t say that...

Hmmmmm, do yours say this on the bottom backside:

And if the "shoe fits" (and works), we are going to be concerned about those letters for what reason?

I can answer my own question...sort of...with a rhetorical question. If you have OEM, why trade it away? I suppose only if you wanted to go back to chrome, and couldn't with your black ones...or your chrome OEM were inop or in disrepair. Then chrome aftermarket that were operable could look pretty attractive/desirable.

Some "critical" parts we worry about because we can only find them in aftermarket or used. I'm not sure that electric side view mirrors quite rise to that level. I'll happily use them on a restored Cruiser.

It's the law. I hate having a front plate on my truck too. Looks ugly and gets bent and scratched too easily.
I never had one on the front of my 85 4Runner. Had it from 18 til 26. Got two speeding tickets in it before 20 and the cops never mentioned anything about not having a front plate.

I have been pulled over and ticketed for front plates twice in CO. In my experience, they get you for this when they laser you from the front, as they are trained to aim the gun at your front license plate. Conversely, the 80 has no front plate and I've never been pulled for anything in that truck.

In Colorado? I'm not sure how long it's been a law. I think it has to do with speed radars and street cameras. Front tags were not required when I lived in Georgia.

Yeah really just depends on the state requirements... In NV we are required to have one on the front IF THERE ARE PROVISIONS for mounting said plate. So if your "stock" bumper or "aftermarket" bumper does not have the holes for a front plate, you are in the clear.

My sister and I drove a '66 Ford stepwise pickup that was 100% original while we were in high school. The license plate mount was off to the side near the tail light. A cop pulled my sister over and tried to write her a ticket for not having an illuminated license plate. She told him that it would damage the collectible value of the truck if she put a light on it. He wrote the ticket anyway and she fought it in court. The judge threw it out immediately!

My ex got a ticket while PARKED for not having a front license plate. Granted, it was in Boulder, but still...

When I first got my Tundra a state trooper pulled me over in the middle of nowhere West Texas....had no idea why, missing front plate...at least he just wrote me a warning.
The truck didn’t even have a mount for the front plate, had to order one.
