Chevy 63 springs with FJ80 rear axle

Long weekend, started Thursday 6am) with a flight to Oregon to check out a rig with fellow Mud mate Jorge (RodrigzCrzt). Complete legend for coming with me as i'm a total noob on FJ's. He checked the whole thing out, very little rust amazingly. Work to do to get it up to daily driver standard but the 14 hour drive back had no issues at all. Stopped via Valley Hybrids for some parts and made it to LA Friday at 6pm.

List for the build is growing. Most urgent matters are passing CA DMV inspection. My windshield is not in a good state and needs replacing. Also need rear three point retractable seat belts to pass the wife family wagon test! Hit me up if you know where to find FJ62 aftermarket or OEM windshield or have suggestions for sea tbelts. I'm all over Parting out, no joy yet.

Another Oregon Landcruiser come and gone... enjoy

Had the front wheels balanced to get rid of this wicked shimmy at certain speeds. Shimmy gone. Took the guy three tries to figure out how to drive it in the bay. "Uh, better let me do this".

Oh, and imagined what the truck might look like with a lift.

Changed brake shoes last week but failed to note that both wheel cylinders were seized. One was obviously seized and replaced along wit the shoes but one was retracted enough that I fooled until I mounted the drum. Corrected that today.

Top photo is old cylinder. Wasn't leaking and appeared ok.

But there was a gap between the end of the parking brake adjuster and the shoe. This was an indication that the adjuster was seized.

New cylinder.

No gap.

The 62 is still in the paint barn, but something else came and occupied by Saturday. ;) E90 seats from a 2008 335i. Fairly straight-forward task thanks to @86aggie who provided extensive info that was priceless help. I took the ball and ran with it. The electrical is a little bit of work and a little weird (especially the driver seat), but everything works as advertised, including seat memories (driver side). Too damned hot to work in the garage.

Clean up not too bad. Just have to be patient and keep gently working it. Conditioning overnight in the hot garage with Leather Honey Conditioner.

Torfab brackets enroute.

EDIT: FWIW, I now don't recommend the Leather Honey Conditioner. It's just way too waxy. I'm sticking with Lexol. I'm going to use Lexol Deep Conditioner once a day for a few days. I'm already able to tell that it definitely has a softening effect on this older leather. Gotta use this on my daily drivers.

The sheen on the seats is how the Leather Honey Conditioner looks for a few hours...then soaks in and the sheen goes away.

Eventually, I'll post a thread on the seats with much more detail. I'm sure you noticed the side air bag. It's easy to isolate those wires so that there is never an accidental detonation/deployment.

I painted and installed my 3D printed cup holders. I used the method posted earlier in this thread by @Javelin. Had to hunt down the texture coating and the SEM paint from around here but finally found it. I actually did this once, and was minutes away from being done when while painting it I stuck my finger in the finish on accident, and made a huge mess of it. Tried to fix it but it just got worse so I had to scrape it all off, re-sand and start completely over. What a mess. I got it re-done, but as you might imagine it did not turn out quite as nice as the first time. Its not bad but could have been better. The coating is nice but you need to be conscious of how far away you hold the can to properly mimic the finish effect the other parts in the interior have. The farther away you spray it on, the rougher the effect becomes. First time around was a really good match. Second time was OK but I think I had the can out too far and the effect was a little rougher than the original parts. The color with my faded interior parts is not a perfect match but I was running out of paint having done this twice so had I had more paint I think I could have matched it better. @Javelin's was better. Close enough for me though. Maybe I'll re-do it down the road but for now this works. This is an awesome piece for anyone wanting to keep their cruiser a little more stock than those replacement center consoles allow but still keep your drinks in check. It really looks like what Toyota should have done from the factory. Super cool.

Nice! Been thinking about removing my dash pad and fiberglassing it. This technique would look nice on a dash! And something I say in woodworking... if someone notices that TINY imperfection and calls you out then you have the right to kick them in the throat.

And for a third FINALLY.... put some stuff back on the truck. Added oil, zinc, coolant and distilled water. Seated and reseated diz at least 20 times getting two results and finally settled on the one closest to what rotor should look like when thereafter doing cold valve adjustment.
Battery tray in, stock holder, painted green and added battery. Fighting w/ crap screw and nut someone added to the hole in the top crossmember for the holder. Will fight w/ it after a good soak in wd40.
