So I'm gonna be honest... I so dig seeing all your snake stuff. I had a ball python for a number of years till I passed him on (twice actually) after my daughter died, I'm not in contact with that person but I do hope he is still thriving. And I was the assistant manger of a nature center for 4 years and the rep room was the most populated. I loved them much more than the furry critters, at some point I plan on getting a bearded dragon for my son. And then I found out via genealogy paperwork my uncle on my dads side did for me for my mom's side... that my great great grandfather was a rattlesnake keeper. There's multiple old newspaper clippings of him in the binder from the 20's to the 30's and the group, The Skunkamorah Rattlesnake Club, he was a part of which hunted the rattlers for their fat and oil. Not exactly cool that they hunted them but man, the risk involved and the stories written in the articles are amazing. Apparently he'd even keep the snakes for months at a time as pets. I spotted one off a dirt road in the state forest (at least 15' away) awhile back with my son and I was an ass tossing stones at it from the passenger window but it never moved even tho I nailed it a few times so thinking it was dead I got out of the truck and started walking toward it, suddenly I saw its tongue jut out of its mouth and I hit the dirt back to the truck fast! I have a photo of my son looking out the truck window at it. Kinda a neat thing for me knowing rattlers were a part of my family so many generations ago. Kinda a neat thing that I didn't get close enough to get bit. What an ass. ;)

In college my roommate and I kept a baby rattlesnake in a terrarium on the windowsill of the adobe house we rented, the walls in that house were about a foot and a half thick. A good friend of ours from Greenville, SC, a wildlife science major, worked with rattlesnakes, so that was how we got the snake.

Timber rattlesnake populations in some NE states have really declined. In some states they're now protected. Rattlesnakes serve an ecological function with feeding on rodents and rabbits which in turn aids in reducing tick numbers.

She brought me home a new dinghy!

I get that. It’s a bummer to know he might have assisted in that decline.

Drained the radiator to change thermostat and replace the rad hoses.
1. Fluid was a very nice green (bonus)
2. Lower rad hose was sketchy and not correct.
3. The O-ring was trashed, but the housing is ok (needs some cleaning).
4. The OEM thermostat is slow to open. It opens but way higher than it should.
5. The Oil cooler hose was rubbing on the alternator adjuster and does not look OEM or correct (bend is crushed rather than molded).
6. The Indonesian made replacement radiator (came installed in the 60) does not have a drain plug, rather a plug made of silicon (you have to be kidding me!!!).
7. Ordered, new o-ring, new oil cooler hose, new hoses for the rear heater (mine has full length hoses as the pipe was rotted out. Found a good used pipe and putting it back in), and a new drain plug.
8. Site until everything arrives Wednesday.
9. Getting tired of all of the little things that are nickel and diming me to death.
10. This saying in my head over and over: "It will be more reliable when your done, all of these things are done, less to brake down on the road. It damn well better be reliable".

Prepared for the new exhaust and order several new mounts.

That was it for me. Nothing else as I am waiting on a ton of parts.

Pulled the manifold in search of a leak only to find out it was the gasket for the egr at the back of the manifold. Made a 15 min job turn into 3 hours, getting quick at removing manifolds. Anyone who is running the Man-a-fre desmog kit, the egr block off plate is not a long-term solution. This is the second time I've has to replace the gasket and it due to the plate being just a flat plate, so the thinner ends that are supported by the J pipe are just crushed with a flat plate. To solve the issue I have ordered an egr block off plate from @FJ40Jim.
Also this past week was brutal in terms of wind here in West Texas. We had a wildfire come very very close to the house, I had to leave work to save the 60 from potential doom.

I guess this was the other weekend, but she rolled over the ODO again.

Got some stuff together to do a dual battery install. I am planning on a fridge in the near future, and some camp lights, some rear 12V outlets, and other doodads. Got a crimper finally, some cables, a Blue Sea ACR and another Blue Sea fuse panel that will get mounted in the rear quarter panel.

Mounted a new SS tray, marine battery, made a bracket to relocate my overflow bottle, and installed the ACR on the battery tray bracket.

Today I had enough with the floppy broken cardboard/carpet tailgate panel so I broke out the grinder. Time to make some tailgate storage! What did I find? Spray foam! :bang:

Why would someone do that? Seems so odd.

Some people think great stuff foam is an essential part of any kind of body work. Seems like everything that’s been in the Midwest gets some somewhere. It really did a number on my ‘40. People like to fill up rust holes with it then use it as a base for bondo. Morons. I’m not sure why it ended up in the tailgate - it’s not really rusty and thankfully I didn’t find any bondo behind the foam. Just one more of the 2,536 reasons to kick your rigs PO square in the...

Had a great weekend up in North Eastern Kentucky at a friend's place for the weekend, we got about 5 inches of snow Saturday afternoon!
