Did a little maintenance while my son napped. I swapped out a few of the 6mm vacuum lines that were cracked and leaking. A tip to remember, cut the new lines a bit longer than the old. For me, I had been trimming the flares ends to get by for a few months and so when I cut the new lines 1:1 it fit like crap. Luckily it was on the first hose so I didn't waste a bunch of it.
Next was the valve cover gasket and coolant temp sensor. Ever since I've owned the car the temp gauge wouldn't move past the bottom of the white. The previous owner told me that if it goes past there, it's overheating. I verified that after doing my water pump and everything and not having enough coolant in the system once I got it running. I'm used to small cars, so I thought 1.5 gallons was sufficient to fire it up, boy was I wrong lol. Anyway after swapping out the sensor I now have a functional coolant temp gauge.
Valve cover gasket was super straightforward. I did find that one of my secondary air hoses is cracked, and of course they are long long gone. If anyone has the two that go to the air cleaner I'd be interested in purchasing them. Once I got the valve cover off I cleaned it up with some brake clean and purple power, swapped up the gasket and grommets and reassembled. The valvetrain is super clean and happy looking. I checked valve clearances while I was in there and everything looks good.
Once that was done I test drove it over to a fellow cruiser guy's house to help him finish up swapping an 80 axle into the back of his 60.
