The shackle allows it to articulate but not wrap. I'll eat crow if this thing breaks. And take pic for everyone too see.

I'm a fan of that shaved tailgate look.

When is that thing gonna get painted already?

Took the piggy on her maiden voyage. Soon realized I/it had a problem. Popped the hood, and discovered the U-joints on the steering column were shot. In fact, the one closest to the firewall was totally wiped out.

Even though Toyota used that same part on the 55, 60, & 62 from 1968-1990, neither dealer in town had one in stock and would have had to order from the warehouse in Ontario CA.

I ended up buying from SOR, saving the 15% plus sales tax.

Howdy! Suppose it's too late to do you any good, but NAPA carries a good version of the same joint. I replaced mine a couple of years ago. I don't have the p/n handy, but I got it off of MUD somewhere. John

A hard days work 2, 12 pacs of beer, one new door panel and parts "$650"

Being able to drive your lifted pig in the Garage with a roof rack on "priceless"

Thanks for the heads up. Wish I had known sooner.

Yes, it is the driveshaft u-joint on first gen Corollas: https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/82386-jinkies-fj60-steering-column-u-joint-info.html

Over the weekend, whilst wheeling with old iron on the Relic Run, I managed to rip a front brake line out at the frame on the driver side. Also, I believe my brake booster is leaking. I hear a small whine of air-ish noise, and also notice a loss in power one or two days.. The loss of power seemed as though a spark plug wire had come off and I was running on 5 cylinders.. Also noticed an slight fuel smell during the periods of time that I experienced a lack of power..

I lucked out in the form of Kurt Williams having a spare brake-line to replace my blown stretch of line.. Which reminds me, I need to get that back to him..

So, I got out in the mountains and put the old 55 to the test. Drummed up a nice list of items to begin fixing and replacing.

When the brake booster leaks, cylinder #6 runs lean. Long enough and the #6 exhaust valve disintegrates...might want to do a compression test.

That's exactly what Kurt explained to me. I'll do the tests in the upcoming weeks/months as I don't have any more travel plans centered around the Pig for quite awhile. I do want to transplant a Lexus V8 in the future, but I won't use that as an excuse to not maintain the current F motor.

I also need to tweak the rear tire carrier a bit, do some door window maintenance, run a new cable for the rear seat lever - that seems to have gotten stretched out.. Patch exhaust leaks.. Ugh, the list goes on.. :)

We just made it back from that same trip. Had a rear brake issue that delayed us joining with everyone on day one.

Carmon, you'll need to get out and join the "Relic Run" one of these years. Your truck qualifies all you need is some old camping gear and stuff. You and the "piggy" would fit right in.

I had a chisel that fit perfectly into that groove. Put a clean tip on it and scraped that stuff off. HTH

I got the piggy all shined up for the car show tomorrow. The show is called "Mopar in the Mountains" sponsored by the local Mopar Club but it's open to all makes and models.
