After 20yrs of owning my 80 and nearly selling it, I am back to daily driving it for a while.
So, she got all cleaned and lubed, various bits replaced like thermostat and hoses and a new set of tires.
Then I took it out to the Chiricahua’s and got it dirty for a few days.

I’m sure most of you locals don’t know me, it’s been years since I actually wheeled. You may see me around Tucson and southern Az mountains though.

Threw on some new OME springs and a set of 5100’s, wow what a difference! Drove the whole rim road fr300, aired down to 16 and insane how smooth this 80 series drove. Had to keep slowing down as 40 felt like 25 lol. First pic is before.View attachment 3749502

Good looking rig. How was FR300? Heard it is paved but haven't heard if it is completely paved.

May be paved on the east to Woods Canyon Lake. I know the entrance at the west end hasn't changed, drive by it regularly. Main concern on that end is watching out for logging trucks.

Discovered that the lug nuts on our new 200 Series are one size on the wheels on the car and another size on the spare.

Add'l: this 200 has the really nice-looking FUEL wheels. Nineteen MM lug heads on the 4 on-ground wheels, but a smaller size (TBD still) on the spare.
Crazy, huh?

We did a big lazy loop from Flag down into the Sky Islands, up through the Blue, the White Mountains, and back home. Lots of birding, fall colors, dirt roads, good food, and high-oxygen deep sleep. With the weather window closing, it may be the last warmth we enjoy for months.

Thank you Onur and Johnny for the Overland Cruisers shop tour and cranking down a manifold gasket leak that sprung up on our way down. Dinner’s on us next time you’re up this way.

Just got home from a 1500 mile trip around Moab and bears ears. Truck did great, the new panhard and steering setup is excellent. Much more stable than it was before when it had a front sway bar. Radius arms are horrible though, they are going away very soon. It has noticeably more power with the recent motor work, even when going to 37's at the same time. Hardest trail we did was kane creek in the rain, which I have only ever done in the rain. This time was much more difficult than a few years ago. Aside from that, lots of exploring north of moab on very rarely travelled roads. Some of which were previously impassible. We didn't have to get tools out once on the whole trip. Even though the new front bumper sticks out a foot less than the arb did, I still hit it hard 6 times or so. One hit hard enough to flex it into the fender, but its still straight and no damage.

I hadn’t heard of Overland Cruisers before. I’ve been out of the loop for a while. I go thru Sonoita all the time, usually on my bike heading to Patagonia for breakfast.
I’ll have to check them out next time I’m down there.

Got a care package from Kurt at @cruiseroutfit

Gonna be a busy fall getting the FJ40 ready for next CruiseMoab!

Dash is torn apart, installing a CarPlay deck. I need an antenna extension though. Guess I’ll be sourcing one in the morning.

Welp, since my RAV4 TRD got wrecked, I decided I needed a CarPlay deck in the 80.
Ripped out the old Eclipse and installed this. Cleaned up the birds nest of wires while I was back there and made a better mount for the battery controller.
