I haven't even attempted to move any one of the other three cruisers in the past two weeks I have been here now

Trail Gear sliders welded up to the body, and (2 weeks ago) my new Tuff Stuff Alpha rooftop tent mounted up. I should be ready to protect my rockers on the Rug Road trip, unlike last year

which I did yesterday: drove the 40 to Payson to join the TRAL run in Payette Draw - only to discover after what used to be 'the ledge" (now much eroded to a simpler incline) that my brake pedal was getting harder and harder . . .

so, with booster/vacuum failure, I decided to maneuver back to town (Payson) as best I could (engine braking, holding up traffic :hillbilly:) and got a tow from AAA back home - getting down the driveway into the lower floor garage without booster action turned out not as bad as I had feared :steer:

Last week while hunting in Tonto National Forest north of Roosevelt Lake and the Salt River (Unit 23) I found myself concerned about gas and range (imagine that). Backtracked to Tractor Supply in Globe where I outfitted my rig with this cheap but safe and reasonably solid "extended range" mod. Admittedly, Officer Krupke would probably pull me over due to obstructed view of my plate. Pictured at Guayo's just north of Globe on Hwy 188, which if you haven't eaten there, you should.

I finally picked up my LX450 from the mechanic with a new rebuilt engine plus new AC components were installed. It has been several years since I had my AC working, it feels nice. I still need to add bumpers.. Any shop recommendations??

Check out Avid Off Road or 4+ Products armor for local options. Randy Ellis Design in PHX does great custom work.

I bought new tail light bulbs for the LX450 - actually kinda surprised that Right Toyota had more than one of them in stock

Installed some new hood louvers. It’s been a while since I posted this is my 1987 Toyota extra cab factory turbo truck! It’s built up pretty good solid axle swap, E lockers front and rear, dual case!

Here are some photos from a twelve-day self supported traverse of southern Arizona from Sonoran Desert National Monument to the Chiricahuas. We saw warm days, soaking rain, deep fog, hard freezes, and lots of spectacular country and wildlife. Our return home to Flagstaff the evening before Christmas Eve saw the first sprinkles of the big weather pattern change that I'm glad we missed. This was our first big trip in this FZJ80 and, barring one easily field-fixed coolant leak that popped up, she performd flawlessly.

Cheers to everyone for a happy holiday.

Beautiful pictures and awesome family adventure.

What orange chair is that? I like the height, how small does it pack?

Thanks.

That chair is our friends'. It packs quite small and is light, but is a little small for my long torso. I'm skeptical of its longevity; its pole hub is plastic. It's here.

The great re-gear to 4.88s and addition of front and rear eLockers has been completed. Wiring fully secured, lockers functional and the truck is one heck of a lot more fun to drive around town. Replaced all interior and exterior (except for HID low beams) with LEDs. Cleaned up some wiring to the aux switches and replaced the 12v fridge socket with the threaded ARB one.

A few more projects for this week include the Lonkey Steering Wheel cover, touching up some scrapes on the sliders and getting out on as many trails as possible.

found during the wheeling outing on December 29th that the instrument cluster lights flickered on the 80 - so did some chasing of electrical connections: cleaned and secured all battery terminals, checked integrity of the never-in-our-10-year-ownership-used trailer wiring and of left-over wiring from devices no longer on the truck, cleaned some connectors, tested all fuses and circuits with an Ohm meter, checked all rear bulbs; replaced the combination bulbs, which were stock from 220K miles ago, and although the filaments looks o.k., the bulbs displayed some black fog - also eliminated an anti-theft engine bay hood sensor with very brittle-from-age wiring

wiring is solid now - tested on FR 1521 yesterday :steer:

Did some wheeling by Zane Grey's old place in some snow/mud...fun. Zona

After a long wait, I added a White '22 TRD Off Road to the stable and we are now 100% Toyota.

Big Two in Chandler is not marking up MSRP, but it still hurt. All in all, it wasn't bad and I was out the door in less than 2 hours. Waited two months from the time it allocated.

Now that Mama has a new car, I am free to spend on the Hood Rat.:clap: Thinking an LS is in order since the 3FE sounds like an old ford diesel at this point.

That is awesome to hear that there is at least one other dealership in the valley not doing an "market adjustment". Did they take a deposit for the 4Runner, did you go into contract when they had a real VIN for the 4Runner?

They wanted $1000 deposit but took $500, and didn’t go into contract until it was off the truck
