Finally did a short shakedown run after a slurry of upgrades. New power steering box/pump/ressy/lines, new TT radiator, HDT fan/shroud, turbo blanket, downpipe wrapped and added a second undersized trans cooler in series behind the valance. Also I think it's the first trip since the Sumo 10% UD gear swappy. She kicked a$$. Ambients temps in the 90*(F) range... climbed some hills and both engine and trans temps are in check.

Had tickets for a concert about 3 hours away from home... so of course we took three days to get there.

Tried out a hammock set-up this run. Went well until we had 30+MPH gusts one night. Climbed into the rig @ like 2AM.

Excuse the effin 4Runner in my shot.

Effin 4runner is WAY better than an Effin Jeep!

Truth

Makes my wife very happy, and that makes it gold.
It's all about making your life partner happy. Morning cappuccino in bed while the sun comes up. Somewhere in the CA desert in our 80...

Getting through my list of winter maintenance. Finally got round to redoing my drivers seat foam, also freshened up the springs and threw a set in out of a 2024 vdj. Handbrake shoes, wheel bearings and swivel hubs and it’ll be set for the next 1/4 million 😂

70s and all Landcruisers… every oil change (~3000 miles) I also grease the drivelines. Eventually the bottom of my rigs have a layer of black dry grease. Over the years it accumulated to a massive amount. I figured to tackle it with high tech!!! Saran Wrap. Make sure you wrap it in the right direction.

After 100 miles or so if it does not fly off, I cut it off.

Finally I have working ac in my troopy. Had to look for parts from many source, but hardest part was probably the hoses and specially fittings. I wanted to use Toyota's original cooler unit, amplifier and dashboard controls. Compressor, codenser and drier are aftermarket parts.

My goal was to build a system for less than buying an aftermarket set. I think I succeeded...👌

I found used 12 volt LJ78 amplifier and this BJ75 is 24 V, so I had to add a couple of 24 volt relays to get the ac control working properly. The troopy has also 12 volt system for camper use, which I used to power the amplifier.

After pressure test with nitrogen, added compressor oil and 900 grams refrigerant..

Yeah the landcruiser was a nice touch I wanted something just a little different than the normal generic canvas seat covers we can get here in NZ, those ones came from a company in South Africa called beesdam

Just did the worst thing I could do to my HZJ 73....
ON THE 4th of July, I have brought home an American Icon, to distract me from the stuff I need to do on the cruiser.

Engine was not locked but only God knows what is the health state of it
Gearbox and transfer case were full of nice clear........water😔
Brakes are not locked, so this is nice, but not working as well.
This is what I found so far on a vehicle which did not start in the past 35 years.

I know that this is not directly related to all 70 series, but it will surely delay mine from its much needed transmission, t-case and rear axle overhaul....and some extended bodywork
Keep safe

Forgot to mention....it's not a wwii war relic, unfortunately.
It's a 1953 CJ3A
That is also not 70 series related but was missing from earlier pos
