I am going to drive my 70 into town for coffee with some friends . Roads are dry , plus the rains that we have had has washed away all the salt and beet concentrate that our provincial contractors use for snow removal. That crap is worse than leaving your vehicle in the Dead Sea over the winter. :bang:

Replenished my stash

discovered an off-road park close to where i live.

served as a great chance to test my skills as well as traction and 4wd system of the truck. this was our first off road experience since I bought her.

it was a nice feeling to follow fully modified new jeeps, suzukis, hiluxes and mitsubishis on the trail with a stock vehicle from 1990 without any issue !

many folks on the trail loved her and waved at us !

Finally finished the roof over the HZJ73
As it seemed to be easier to install 4500 Lbs of steel beams then it was to replace the rotten windscreen frame...
IMG_20250311_152229.jpg

After partly rebuilding the 3.25 ton lift, it was time for some much needed maintenance.
Retorqued U-bolts, spring bolts, front and rear bumper/tow cross member bolts, rear transfer yoke nut and some more.

Replaced clutch fluid and brake fluid.
IMG-20250411-WA0020.jpg

Topped off the transfer oil, reduced the transmission oil level....seal is probably on its way.

Replaced front left bump-stop
IMG-20250411-WA0017.jpg

Replaced oil pressure sending unit.
Now the gauge is more optimistic and correlates to the test I did a while ago with a mechanical gauge.
IMG-20250411-WA0022.jpg

Checked diffs oil
Greased all the zerks I could find
Checked coolant Level, steering oil level.

Hope to replace engine oil tomorrow.
Findings include worn out front u-joint mounting of the rear drive shaft.
Mildly worn front U-joint on the front drive shaft.
A little worn rear pinion bearing
A slight radial slack on the rear transfer output shaft.

None of these are going to be attended soon...need to order and collect parts before I get to it.
Also had to get rid of two trailers of garbage at the order of my wife.
Love that old machine....😉

looks like you have a nice little setup there :)

@Omrib,
Funny how thousands of pounds of steel are indeed easier to deal with than a few pounds of sheet metal on that windscreen frame 😆

Beautiful work, beautiful country!
Cheers!

Good garage spa weekend for the 77. New PS pump, soft/hardlines and gearbox are in. New reservoir, tube and clamps while I'm up in there. New Terrain Tamer radiator fitted, new 1HD shroud trimmed and foam sealed. Had to make some additional brackets to hold the shroud the radiator. Check. She'll get the slightly larger yellow dot fan. Little frame clean from years of PS leaks. Relocated my water temp sensor from a radiator hose adapter to the top tank of the new radiator. Swapped out a faulty Auber (great customer service @ Auber BTW). Made a plan for a remote ATM cooler and lines. Still found time to get drunk with the fellas and do some yard work. In that order. Came back to work today to rest.

You may have just described a man's perfect weekend there.

not today coz I'm prepping my 40 for an engine swap but had a climb under the 70 series yesterday to have a look at what size efi fuel hose I need to swap over the fake bosch 044 fuel pump I ended up with for a genuine bosch pump with a non return valve so I don't have to prime the fuel rail every time I start the truck, the fittings on the new pump and the injector fuel rail are both 3/8 so I'll pull the 5/16 feed line out and replace it with 3/8 and leave the return in 5/16

Might be a dumb question but is this pump acting as a lift pump currently? Or gravity?

Picked up a replacement heart!

We hit an antique store on the way home from fetching the engine.
Most of these items are useless for a diesel, but they will be great fun for the older petrol Cruisers with carbs and points!

What engine is that? You sourced it quick.
It was for sale in the classifieds in Toronto. @TurboDennis met me at both of our half-way points, just over the border from Michigan, about 3 hours from me.

The engine looks great and came out of a good running truck. Being used it won't be a forever solution but my plan is to check it over, drop it in my pickup, and get on the road. If all goes to plan I will be rebuilding the tired 1HD-T that came out of my truck over next winter. I had wanted to put a 1HD-T in my wife's HZJ-73 that we got last year, so ultimately that is what will happen post rebuild- a 1HD-T for each Cruiser. It helps to keep things on track, rather than mope around with no 79 series (I just bought) for the camper and no camping with it this summer. A lot of expense in a hurry for sure but in the long run it kind of pans out. I HOPE!

Waiting for a new heart.
