Nice!, looks like fun and a little freaky.

How is that new turbo working out?
It's been a dream! I need to get that thread together still, I just work 55+ hours weekly so I don't have a lot of truck time. I had doubts about the small GT20 compressor, but it has been wonderful.

I drive 200+ miles weekly with a ~3000' elevation change (Flagstaff to Sedona via hwy 89). With the exception of one huge hill, I can keep up with and even pass traffic. Mileage has hovered right around 21 MPG (on 33's), tuned EGTS for 1200F- max fuel screw almost all the way in. Boosts up to 14 psi very quickly without a boost adjuster on it. I like having no lag compared to the only other turbo I know on that engine, the CT26. I think it loses a bit of top end power but for a lower boost setup it's super reliable and fun.

Switched the oil lines over to A/N, lost the water cooling fittings which does open up the possibility of a air/water intercooler. New silicon hoses and t-clamps from Pegasus. Found a universal fit heat blanket that works. This setup seems to do very nicely. I want to do a teardown of the engine/body/interior/driveline but need this to not be my primary vehicle first. I'm confident that I'm in good hands until then.

(Forgive the worm-drive clamp on the turbo, this has been rectified since I took this photo)

Not sure what you're swing outs look like. I'm assuming you just don't want to keep having to open them and shut them every time you want to get in the back of the vehicle. I use just one swing out which leaves the small door uncovered for ingress and egress. An option I considered was to use an air spring connected between the door and the swing out so they would open and shut as one together but the air spring would hold it off the bumper slightly so it would not rattle leaving the latches on the bumper to latch it down for off-roading if desired.

I just got tired of opening and closing the swing out very quickly, plus if you were not careful and had never had them on the cruiser before, you might try to open the door first before opening the swing out if you are in a hurry. That would cause a nasty dent. A lot of times I open both doors and not just the smaller one of the two.

That being said, the kaymar bumper is perfect for the 77 even without the swing outs. It offers optimal protection for the sides.

I actually really liked the previous bumper I had too but the wings did not fully reach across the lower quarter panels.

I’m starting to think the Jeep guys and gals don’t like Land Cruiser owners. My hometown has a fair concentration of Land Rover 90’s and 110’s, including a couple of 110 pickups. Those guys all wave and give you the occasional “thumbs up”.
The Jeep guys not so much. Even the Gladiator guys seem to avoid eye contact. 😊

same here.

i get guys in built 80 series' crawling out their window's and yelling "TROOPIE!" at me.

naw guys, just a middie.

Off-roading is fun. It's even better if you can enjoy it with other people. I try to be friendly to anybody I meet on the trail no matter what they're driving. The most popular off-roader and probably most capable for the money is a ugly cut up Cherokee driven by somebody who doesn't really care if it breaks. One of my cousins drives a rig like this it has been off roading the Carolinas more frequently and longer than I have. In the opinion of he and his friends:. The Land Rover crowd is stuck up.... I get a lot of thumbs up on the trail in my bj-73. I try to be friendly, Lend a hand when somebody needs it, don't be critical of other people's rigs, or their behavior if they're not hurting anybody. I don't want me or any other Land cruiser people getting lumped in with the negative view some have of the Land Rover crowd.. Maybe somebody in your neck of the woods pissed off the jeep crowd in a Land cruiser.

Maybe it is different where I am but all sorts of people give me the wave or thumbs up. Jeeps, cruisers, defenders, etc. To be honest, it is the cruiser people that are least likely to wave or thumbs up at me.

I saw the first 70 series ever in San Antonio (that was not mine) while I was driving mine about three weeks ago. I waved, and got nothing back. It looked a lot like the PZJ70 that Ian worked on and sold.

The other day I got a thumbs up from a guy in a nice grey Benz G wagon at the stop light.

Nice to hear thats working out. I bet it does boost quick, I wonder how fast it runs out of oomf.

Colorado new slogan should be: Move to Colorado and get a free Jeep or Rooftop tent and rotopax setup.

There are an insane amount of Wranglers where I live. I counted the other day on a 4 mile jaunt through town and counted 17. 1 waved and thumbs up. The rest have zero idea there is anything other than a jeep, glued everything "offroad" and angry eyed piece of kit available and avoid looking and generally are oblivious or snotty.

I will say the majority of them are "built" around here. And by built I mean dealer lift, awful rims and some LED bars and terribly tacky color accented crap or wannabe mad max looking "armor"

I used to wave to all of them but now I wait to get waived too. Yes, your mini van V6 is cool.

I don't think Jeeps are bad in particular but it is the North American market taste in aftermarket accessories that screws it up. Maybe THAT is why Toyota won't bring the 70 series to the US. They don't want us to bastardize the 70 series like Mr. Papp did to that 79 series he had as one example.

To my knowledge, there are five 70 Series in the local area (~ 40 mile radius), I’m guessing a half dozen Defenders of various sizes, a few G-Wagons, and a thousand Jeep’s. 😊

I almost never get waved at, which is probably good, because by the time I notice I am already gone by and then feel bad for not noticing sooner. I am probably giving the impression that I am one of those stuck up types when in reality I am completely oblivious because my mind is somewhere else.

I will say in my defense when I was turning a corner I actually saw a 40 series a couple of weeks back and waved to him. I just do not see many/any Land Cruisers around here. I was stopped at a light heading home a month or so ago and a kid in a little car stopped beside me bouncing up and down and giving me the thumbs up. I waved to him.

To the rest of you people out there that I saw too late or not at all, you have my most sincere apologies. And... :flipoff2: if you thought I was stuck up!!

Insert Tacoma or Sprinter/Promaster/Transit in your first sentence here in Idaho. Some have both, a van and a taco.

We have everything here in Az,,,,

I live in a small mtn town with ALOT of folks travelling through to see the state parks, and ALOT of flatlanders (greater Phx population) come up for the cooler temps, lakes and pine trees. So I get to see pretty much everything, even those giant expedition trucks with German travellers.

Ditto- Mogollon rim gets all sorts. Getting blown up by Phoenix/Cali tourists every weekend has a lot of drawbacks, but I'd say 1 out of every 1000 or so vehicles is interesting. Saw a high roof lifted 4x4 VW Vanagon a couple times today in Oak Creek Canyon. Less stoked on the million angry neon Jeeps on 20's and 2016+ Tacos with $20K worth of crap hanging off them.

Interesting duality in the van life segment though- certainly there are "haves" and "have-nots."

@FJBen apparently this turbo is a close match to the 3B block map. Hard sayin how it behaves with not a lot of reference. I feel like it gets me up into that sweet zone above 2000 RPM real quick and then feeds very constant 14 PSI from there up to 3100 or so, which is about where I find my shift points on steep climbs. I don't remember so much with the CT26, but I feel like I can "ride" a gear a lot more without feeling like I'm lugging the engine. I oughta crank up the boost a bit and see what happens. It's also nice to have the quick spool around town when I need to snake past the 4x4 Sprinter vans and Overland Chevy Colorados clogging up my drive home.

More sound deadening. I cut strips to sit in the valleys of the ribs, but the cut edges leaves exposed butyl that sticks to all kinds of things. I'm going to go over the seams and edges with aluminium foil tape next. I hate things that just attract dirt. I tried quite hard to get as few wrinkles in the wheel covers which took a bit of faffing about but I'm happy.

Nice mate! Are you in CHCH?

Did you add enough in the valleys make them level with the high ground?
