I didn't have M12x1,25 thread repair kit so I ordered one. I machined some tooling to help drilling and tapping straight.

Centering with pin from the non threaded part of hole.

Drilling to over size with pilot bushing.

And threading, again with pilot bushing.

Fixed thread. There is better solutions to repair threads, but there is enough material so I used Helicoil type thread insert.

After that everything went well and I assembled it today. It was so nice to drive Cruiser after a month! I had agricultural works and it took all my time for couple weeks.

I actually have some plans to replace this engine. I have 2RZ-E (yes, 8 valve version from Hiace) which has driven less than 100 tkm. But I'm looking if I found more interesting engine.

3 mud members letting their 70 series hang out together and play a little bit.

@mt72, @JDMBC, and @Rigster met up for a brief overnighter (that's OVERNIGHTER, not OVERLANDER - which is also more commonly known as camping)

Cleaning up the rigs at my place in Armstrong

Then we promptly went and got them all dirty the next day

@mt72 and @JDMBC and I had a really great time talking shop and just hanging out. I am really impressed with the quality of character of these 2 fellow cruiserheads. Thanks guys for the really enjoyable time together - I am glad we had the opportunity to make this happen despite our busy schedules. ❤️

where in P.G?
Not

Hey Phil? not completely gone before heading to NWT I decided to get injector core from Darren and rebuild them in Prince George waiting on that till next week

That's me!

Probably a good idea. And hopefully you can get your hands on new seats, washers etc for when you put your new ones in.

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

BEB's are in.

None of the bearings were too bad but were due to be done, #5 looked the worst of the bunch

All 6 bearings were #4's

Crank and Rods all marked #2 and all the crank pin's mic'd to match #2 range

The #4's measured to match the ACS Duraglide standard size bearings, had a machinist friend confirm my measurements and sent home the ACS's with copious amounts of assembly lube....and made sure the nub on the cap was facing forward.....gotta read the manual front to back.....they dont mention that detail until EM-111

Used new bolts, torqued to spec, marked with paint pen and cringed on the extra 90 degree turn of each bolt on the caps.

Pan is back in place to keep it clean

Sat am I'll pull the pan again, reinstall the sump, clean the block/pan and have some fun with FIPG and the 400 fasteners that secure the pan......

I feel your pain. It's funny that #5 seems to be "the one". Getting them to slot in their little groove on the shells above the crank was tricky on a few of them.

I call it "assembly syrup". 😄

Separating the pan from the block was a bit of a pain but aside from that it was straight forward

Wonder what it is about #5 in these engines

I found that sliding the new bearing over the top then seating the protrusion/nub first then seating the plain side in the crank/top side worked best for me

Definately a measure 3-4 times/cut once job

I wonder how the duraglides will compare with Mr T bearings

Both are tri metal as I understand it and will embed contaminants in the bearing instead of scoring the crank in most cases

R/R'd the 77's TurboSmart boost/EGT and AutoMeter water temp gauges with them new-ish round Auber units yesterday. Dig 'em.

Ordering two more for the trans temps and oil pressure soon. Pull the entire room together. They so modern and digital. Fairly easy to set-up... little tweaking to get the boost zero'd out. Change from default BAR reading to PSI. Still need to test drive to pub later tonight.

Today bought one of these. I’m hoping that this will replace the faulty original one . The wiring looks similar, two fat wires & two thin wires. Although the courts are different on the new fat wires I’m sure looking at the diagram it’ll make sense.

When I found new vacuum switches for 4wd activation, colors were different but operation is correct.
