I just practiced filling my first holes in some 12 guage steel. I used a piece of copper pipe that I smashed as a backing while I filled in with spot welding at the 20 seting on my Hobart MIG.
I have a < 1 cm hole that I just noticed on my tub's cowl. This is 18 guage steel. Can I fill this the same way, and should I turn the welder down to 10, not to burn through? or would it be better for me to cut a hole out and put in a small patch. If a patch is needed, is a metal slug ok?
