Get the bug crud off however you have to do it. Simple Green works well for me. Once you are clean and washed, apply a coat of Collinite 845 Insulator Wax. It's a thin and oily sealant wax. It beads like no other and lasts six months outside. Once treated with Collinite 845, bug splats will come off much easier and they won't etch your paint. A little dab will do your whole hood. Six little dabs will do your whole truck. A bottle will last you five years. Great stuff!

Two tips: Sit the bottle out in the sun or heat it up in warm water and shake well before using. Take a flip-to-close lid off an old bottle of Dawn dish detergent and screw it on the bottle of Collinite. It will allow for easier tiny dab dispensing. Then throw the original Collinite lid in the trash.
