Just picked this one up today. It seems it's an early 8274 (January 1975?), which will be a good match for the 75 FJ40, just have to get some tutorials on how to rebuild this.

Here ya go. This is an excellent thread with many additional links on rebuilding an 8274.

I was able to purchase all in the photo as a single lot at the Louisiana state auction last week. Lucky me. I suspected that there was an 8274 in the lot, but you could barely tell by the horrible photo they provided, and I was not able to drive to Baton Rouge to inspect it prior to bidding. Had to bid sight unseen (except for the bogus photos they provided - Note: the photos are still viewable on govdeals if curious). I won the bid and not only was there an 8274 in the lot, but there was ANOTHER Warn winch (a 9000 lb model?), four fairleads, the winch carrier, the brush guard (not sure what truck it fits), three winch controllers and a handful of miscellaneous items unrelated. Not sure if anything "works". My question relates to the approximate date of manufacture of the 8274. There is a serial number clearly readable, but no date code that I can see. It has the plastic plug for the controller, so that in combination with the high serial number and the info from a previous post in this thread, I am guessing this is an early '90s model. Agree?
