Hello,

Not sure if there are similar posts on the forum but wanted to create mine to ask some questions and understand better what I actually need. So I'd like to change transfer case and differential oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, etc. I'm not going to do everything in the same day, so step by step, depending on how busy I am. I'd like to start with differential and transfer case oil. According to the owner's manual it has to be LT 75W-85 GL-5 for the differential and SAE 75W for TC. And this is what confuses me and wanted to make sure that I understand:

1. What means LT?
2. I'm assuming GL-5 for the TC as well?
3. 85 stands for viscosity?

So if I understand everything correctly, does that all mean that basically I can use the same oil for both - TC and the differential? I don't think it's worth to spend over $500 just for genuine Toyota oil (it's around $90 per 1L), so I'm gonna buy an aftermarket one, especially if I have to change oil every 30k miles.

The answers to some of your questions depend on what year is your LX.

As noted by @gasman4u , lubrication is a very common question. Here’s an example of what to use for a google search to get many threads of info.

I think I'm gonna use 75W-90 for both - differential and TC. I don't know how bad is the oil inside so I though it'll be better to use something cheaper for now and then next time maybe I'll get something better like Ravenol or even from Toyota. So far I found Valvoline 75W-90 and Mobil 1 Delvac 75W-90, but this one says for semi-trucks, so not sure if I can use it for my vehicle. Any recommendations on this?

Also, found 2 different part numbers for washers, I guess I can use either one but which one is better? 12157-10010 vs 90430-18008? Do I have to replace plugs as well or just washers? Thanks to everyone.

IIRC, @cruiseroutfit has replacement drain plugs and washer kits? I'd ask them what the best solution is.

Agreed, and they probably have everything else needed as well. Its nice to support the family of Land Cruiser shops, especially when those guys are giving out info for free and helping all of us.
