Asking opinions on a 94 80 series. Has lockers but currently not working. Interior is in rough shape. @murf red with bad clear coat. Has the damage multiplier grill guard that has done it's job and caused some minor damage up front. Currently doesn't move because of a locked up brake. My opinion is a small stone got lodged between the rotor and caliper. Haven't checked but assume brake are going to need work. Believe mileage is between 245K-275K. Engine has had some issues. Obviously needs a ton of work but is a AZ and doesn't have rust which is definitely a plus. I'm not selling the vehicle or looking for low ball pricing. I want a honest opinion of it's value.

I have a 95FZJ80 I bought for $4,000 that had 215,000 miles on the odometer and it was in running condition. I've spent plenty of time and money on a suspension rebuild, engine rebuild, and things like pinion gears, air lockers, radiators, starters, alternators, etc., etc. No cracked dash and the seats had been recovered and it had been repainted. Your truck, based on what I have invested, is worth not more than $4K, maybe less.

Agree with the above responses. I see 80's for sale on CL all the time that need work around $2,500 - $3,500.

I wouldn't pay anymore than $3,000 for the one you're describing.

You’re good to ask for more than $5,500.

Today, you asked current owners who bought their rigs for $4k-$6k 10 To 15 years ago and dropped $4-10k in it over 10 years. This is not your market.

There is a new set of buyers looking for 80’s, those who don’t Want to wrench as much, they want the lockers, they want the lift, they want the bumpers and they want to “overland”.

A locked rig in good condition with bumpers, lift, no rust, 200k miles ( give it take 20k) will sell for $15k and up.

The market is changing, you’ve got the Joe Rogan’s and other internet influencers buying our rigs now.

smart money is moving towards the 80 series, values have peaked for underperforming Range Rover and yes they will go higher but they’re more show than go.
Build up your 80, hang onto it and remember, if you sell you don’t need to sell it to one of us, sell it to someone who’s arms don’t fill out their polo.

Good thoughts. But for clarification, I bought my 80 in May 2018 for $4k.

You have lockers? If so, you got the steal of the century.

His earlier post said he added air lockers, so probably not. I see the comments saying $2,500-$3,000 for a 80 with lockers and find that kind of hard to believe when you see a pair of locked axles for $2,500. Think a rust free cruiser with locked axle could part out for a lot more than $3,000.

I would pay $5,500 for his rig today. Locked axles alone, if you can find them are $$2-3k. The cost to swap axles is going to be another $2-$3k depending on labor.

I noticed you did not purchase your rig with factory locked axles at $4,000. Unlocked stock 80's are $2k-$7k depending on condition and mileage.

In my humble opinion, it's worth $5,500.

get it running and it will probably sell for $5-6K - but not with major brake and possible engine issues - trashed interior is a turn-off, too
