In a brake related thread I mentioned that I'm setting up a small shop to bring back some of the unobtainium products of the past. I'm starting this new thread to expand on some thoughts so that I don't hijack the other thread.

As our hobby is expanding while the vehicles are getting older and more perishable items are becoming "NLA", it's getting harder to keep our vehicles stock. There are many creative solutions out there, but if you're like me, you want parts to be plug and play and designed to fit your vehicle. On this premise, I decided to tackle certain specific needs that are on the "low margin, high effort" side of the spectrum that Toyota and other suppliers won't ever care to play in. I figure no corporation can fill this niche better than a Cruiser enthusiast.

After much due diligence, I've got a couple of confirmed products coming through the pipeline, and a couple more in the concept stages being actively investigated. Feel free to pitch new ideas at me. Whatever I bring to market has to be reasonably priced. Personally I don't feel OEM prices are reasonable.

I'll end this post with a teaser pic. In a few days I'll be offering this unobtainium air intake hose for the '79 to '84 FJ40. Exact OEM replacement, oval on one side round on the other, brand new.

@Racer65 interesting your TH dizzy has that plug....mine must be an earlier version and doesn't, purchased 9/14 (+/-).

If you could source those vacuum advance canisters, I'd be first in line. That way I could revamp my '77 points dizzy as a backup.
The 61180 is beautiful. USA got that dissy for 76.5-77 model years, but the vac advancers are dying on them and toyo discontinued the part, now that they're old enough to need replaced.

This would be a drop in for USA 75-77 2F, with the added advantage of converting the 75-76 from vac retard to advance. It would also drop into any earlier engine, though they theoretically should have the tiny 61080 F distributor.

The 61180 can be converted to pertronix electronic, but it takes a weird kit. Mark A knows which one to use for 75-77 dissy.
I think it is possible to drop in the Toyota electronic ignition by changing out the breaker plate and swapping the point cam for a trigger wheel. Haven't done it yet, but that's essentially what Denso did in 1978.

If the vac advancers could be bought from Toyota, it could be used to save a bunch of 75-80 USA dissys that either need swapped from retard to advance, or need a bad advancer replaced.

Just want to issue a quick technical bulletin on the electric power steering installation. Make sure you tighten the output shaft clamp to spec. We recently learned about a case of the shaft working loose due to insufficient tightening.

Not for 1/79 through 7/80, but they're basically the same as the caps for 9/77 through 1/79. Maybe that's why Toyota discontinued that part number. From what I understand, one of the nipples on the top of the cap changed due to a change in the diameter of the corresponding vent hose. I was going to check both types side-by-side in the morning. I'll post what I find.
