They were mostly ebay specials but I think I did buy the hood "cushions" from a vendor- only lasted 1 yr. on my daily driver that is garaged. Were those hinge gaskets from a vendor? OE or aftermarket?
Some of the 55 guys have pictures of re-pop window rubbers that are just falling apart after a few years, damn sad when you see the effort & cost involved. Not sure why rubber parts are so poorly done on the re-pop?They were mostly ebay specials but I think I did buy the hood "cushions" from a vendor- only lasted 1 yr. on my daily driver that is garaged.
I run into the same thing with our 3rd gen T4Runners. I tried (Moogs) stuff only to have the rubber dry rot in less than a year-which sends me back to OEM. I hate buying twice! Our J40 is 52 YO so I expect dry rot/deterioration after 52 yrs. I just think (as I'm still learning) a lot variables are at play. Some folks/vendors/manufactures don't know the difference in materials, or a bean counter cut costs-rubber is rubber, right? Some of the 55 guys have pictures of re-pop window rubbers that are just falling apart after a few years, damn sad when you see the effort & cost involved. Is this rotting rubber also a problem with new vehicles chevy or fordBuy a bottle of Glycerin and soak the rubber in that. It's because the stuff that keeps the rubber nice is expensive, unavailable, and not allowed in some places so you get base rubber which depending on how cut it is & with what will deteriorate extremely fast.
I 've got one that looks like the one in your first photo.Would anyone have an Old Style Washer cap?
I've got most f the parts to rebuild a working model. but my cap is beyond recognition. Would like to 3D model and print a replacement.

It’s a good thing the car had good old fashioned lead-based paint that could handle the glycerin!Back in the early 60’s when we went on family camping trips and used a roof rack. My dad would always smear Glycerin on the rubber suction cups that rested on the roof.
