For a replacement of Toyota 77293-60010 (gas filler to body gasket) I found a jerry can Viton-rubber gasket is the perfect size!!! I chose Viton rubber due to its ability to resist UV, chem/gas damage unlike low quality cheap rubber.

I also bought sheets of varying thickness to replace the 1 YO rubber gaskets between the door/hood hinges that are deteriorating already. :( Live & learn.

Were those hinge gaskets from a vendor? OE or aftermarket?

They were mostly ebay specials but I think I did buy the hood "cushions" from a vendor- only lasted 1 yr. on my daily driver that is garaged.
Some of the 55 guys have pictures of re-pop window rubbers that are just falling apart after a few years, damn sad when you see the effort & cost involved. Not sure why rubber parts are so poorly done on the re-pop?

I run into the same thing with our 3rd gen T4Runners. I tried (Moogs) stuff only to have the rubber dry rot in less than a year-which sends me back to OEM. I hate buying twice! Our J40 is 52 YO so I expect dry rot/deterioration after 52 yrs. I just think (as I'm still learning) a lot variables are at play. Some folks/vendors/manufactures don't know the difference in materials, or a bean counter cut costs-rubber is rubber, right?

I replaced the lift gate handle seal with an new OEM rubber seal and it's dry-rotting already after 1.5 yrs, even Toyo can get a bad batch of materials .

I bought brand new lens gaskets for the 64-68 front ‘school bus’ turn signals that dry rotted on the shelf. Used by no one.☹️ Same with the insulator grommet on the horn contact. Both OE replacement parts purchased in the early’90s.

And yet I had NOS early heater elbows that were still supple when I finally let them go. I keep my fingers crossed on my spare windshield vent flap.

Buy a bottle of Glycerin and soak the rubber in that. It's because the stuff that keeps the rubber nice is expensive, unavailable, and not allowed in some places so you get base rubber which depending on how cut it is & with what will deteriorate extremely fast.

Back in the early 60’s when we went on family camping trips and used a roof rack. My dad would always smear Glycerin on the rubber suction cups that rested on the roof.

It’s a good thing the car had good old fashioned lead-based paint that could handle the glycerin!😛
