@cruisermatt Quick question.. I am not an LS expert by any means, I see LS valve covers are vented, the Drivers side appears to vent to back of the intake, the passenger side vent looks like it went into the old intake tubing or somewhere that is no longer on this motor. Could we vent the passenger side valve cover to this now empty connector for the Evap? Or should @2fpower build some sort of catch can assembly for the valve cover vents? Or lastly can we look at building a catch can assembly later if needed and just hook the pass side valve cover vent to get it running? Trying to hit the easy button here so we can fire this up and then start working on gremlins.
I did read that Chevy had updated valve covers with improved PCV baffling that reduce oil suck into the intake manifold. have NOT pulled the valve covers off to verify if they are the newer style or older (guessing newer given build date on the motor). I'm just going on my Google skills
Any and all guidance would be appreciated!

I have the same Gen 4 intake, I just capped off that port from the EVAP line with a rubber cap, nothing special. As for venting I have hydroboost so I put my driver's side valve cover to the leftover brake booster vaccum and the passenger valve cover uses vent port on my throttle (I have a gen 3 cable throttle).
It really doesn't matter that much for you, you could just do a external catch can if you're really worried about oil in the intake :meh: I need to change mine up to a external can as I am about to go turbo.
You definitely can fire it up and drive it with the ports on the valve covers open, you won't hurt anything and virtually nothing will come out. My BMW would spew a little bit out of them when letting off throttle at after a full 7k-rpm + 15-20lbs boost high gear hit

what did you use for cold air intake?

I discovered (by reading the PCI manual) that the ECM will fire two wires at different temps to tell one or two fans to engage. So -- this told me that I want to keep the factory water temp gauge. So where do I put the toyota gauge was my question ... found the answer here.

The brake lines originally were originally mounted where the exhaust manifold were so I move them about a foot up on the frame. I also have exhaust running next to where they would be on the frame so move them outboard…. therefore had to make all new brake lines. I’ll protect them with wiring wrap as well as they’ll be rock sliders in that area also.

More slow progress…. Computer fuse box and gas pedal mounted.

Did I mention that a couple boxes showed up??

Who has a wiring diagram for this engine? Or who has a 2.4 VM motor?

I thought I chased down some wires, but must not have. I am trying to find the wires in the harness for the oil pressure and engine temp.

Pretty sure yellow with black strip was oil pressure (at least on most toyota's)

I think I sold the engine with the engine harness, so I just have the connection block on the passenger side of the car. I will search for a yellow with black stripe.

To test it, can I just touch it to ground? What about water temp?

Touching to ground would move the oil pressure gauge. Never tried water temp to know for sure.

Additional question for first time LS swapper....

I have the PSI harness of course. Great, but missing several wires and I just want to make sure I am getting everything.

obviously missing water temp to gauge and oil pressure to gauge wires.

Wire from battery to starter.

wire from key function start to starter.

wire to alternator - big power cable.

Anything else?

Finally, any other wires on the car need to be integrated into the engine?

I have a hydraulic battery terminal crimper, some ends and some wire when ur ready

Does the harness have the excite / sense wiring built in for the alternator? It should illuminate the dummy light in the dash.

that is one tool that I also have.

The PSI harness has the two little wires going into the back of the alternator, but does not have the big heavy gauge wire, so it seems like it is needed. On old toyota harnesses I worked on, if I recall, that wire also fed the car with power.

FSM to the rescue.. this out of 1992 manual for 70 series.

also how to test oil pressure sender.

Well, good info here. With the PSI harness, the manual says the oil pressure stock sender unit is optional. NOT SO TRUE...

Got this from the tech support...

As far as the oil pressure goes, you need to plug the factory sensor in for the VVT to work correctly.

There is a plate above the oil filter you can drill and tap to accept the Toyota oil sender.

Picked up a Camaro double fan and a volvo single. camaro seems too big.

Have to tap the stock oil sender on the cap. What is the pitch?

Next question....

The PSI harness needs switched power that is fused already for the fuel pump. Since this was a diesel, no such monster was there before. Any suggestions to use for this?

who else has swapped an engine on a 70 series? @joekatana
