Chev 1 ton joints are no stronger than stock toyota 80 series ends . I ran them for a while and went through a couple of sets (tried two different brands) before going back to 80 series ends . They seem to last a lot longer . I don't think the six shooter arms from TG will bend or break either .

Can somebody post the diameter/thread/pitch of the 1 tons and the 80 ends? I need to be able to compare for near future decisions.

Thanks, Don

I removed 1 ton TR ends to go to this, I could have reamed the arms and used them, however I have never heard of anyone having issues with them, my wifes 80 has 386K on the clock and they are still tight.

I like the 4x4 labs stuff more for the tie rod being behind the axle than for the 1 ton TR's. Plus I'll take a billet steering arm over a forged Chinese arm any day. Not bashing your stuff by any means, just letting you know my comment had more to do with the overall design of the 4x4 labs stuff, not just the 1 tons.

What kinda trails does this truck run & what size tires are on there? Good choice on not running drive flanges for the street. You thought about a hydro assist steering setup?

R U talking 'bout the wifes truck or my 40?
Wifes is a DD no trails, it has had the OEM tire size for the first 225K since it has run 285/75R16 Toyo A/T's

My 40 anything I have the balls to do, which is anything unless I am in danger of going over backwards, got a phobia of that...........

Hi All:

Nice job on the axle build Butch!

Don't worry about Todd's (aka Spotcruiser) comments - he is just jealous! :D

Regards,

Alan

mine is quite similar, with a few add on's....

FJ40 housing, cut and turned...
TG housing and knuckle truss (modified)
6-shooter knuckles
Latest Longfields and chromo hub gears
Marlin inner axle seals
4x4 Labs hi-steer with behind-axle hydro assist
V6 4Runner calipers ('92ish) and backing plate eliminator
ARP spindle, knuckle, and lockout studs

That's pretty similar to my setup except I don't have...

Dang Butch! Dearborn painted Nolen's diff pink when he wasn't lookin!

You went ahead and did it all by yourself! ;p

I wonder what Dearborn and Nolen would have to say about this?:flipoff2:

I'll make sure to load my rattle can next time I'm headed to TX!

Of course, paint don't stick to dirt real good, so I guess if you wheel it a bunch afore I sees ya, I'll have to let it go.;)

Thanks for the plug on the rings.:)

am i missing something

I've run my setup with 37" Pitbull Rockers and currently with 'soft' 39" Pitbull Maddogs...

I still run coarse spline stock front pinion...thus far, I've twisted a couple rear driveshafts, cracked a 700R trans case, cracked a D300 transfer case, and a shattered the 300M star in a mid-generation chromo Longfield...

ring-pinion will not be an issue, no need for cryo :)

Woody, I think I read on your previous post that you were running an aussie locker w/ 37's

do you still run an aussie locker in the front w/ 39s

question for the wise one!

how about you sir?

what locker do you run on your front diff?

and

would an aussie locker be strong enough for my 40 stock axel w/ 37's mtrs?

OK Poncho, if you had read the thread you'd know what kind of locker I have in here..........

OK Bucho! I forgot you're buddy of the no so wise one.

There's another question there sir!

would an aussie locker be strong enough for my 40 stock axel w/ 37's or may be 39s?

Are you coming to the crawl in Hot Springs?

I assumed since I have never run one that one was addressed to Woodman, but if he ain't broke it, it's hellforstrong

I will be at the Crawl
