Congrats Heather!

Guess you are back in the market for a 40 too!

Always knew you were a closet hoarder!

Nice job Heather. Glad you liked it. Don't worry about all the things on your list. I have already done all the leg work in finding parts for mine and I'll keep an eye out on an A/C unit.

Congrats Heather. It looks like a great pig. I'm would love to add one of those to the stable at some point. Gonna pick up an 80 first though.

Thats awesome you have til Oct to get it going good I think thats my preliminary date for the pig run. So have fun, maybe we can do a HAMOM for you one weekend or something.

Well, I can say this is a nice cruiser...one of the best condition 55s I have seen in a long time that didn't have a resto done. It was also packed full of parts...OEM parts at that!!

I was pretty impressed. I will let Heather do the rest of the talking, don't want to steal the thunder on any further impressions.

Meet the Sow

Y'all are out playing pool and drinking beer and here I am on MUD posting up my new pig.

It's beautiful! I have to say that given my limited knowledge of such things swine, it is in great shape. I'll post up the pics, good and bad. But the important thing is that it's running, it's very driveable, everything works, and it's a great truck to learn about restoration and all things mechanical.

Good stuff:

There is NO rust on the frame, but the floor board is bad under the back seat. The front floorboards are salvageable from what I can see. The driver's door is bad. The window frame is rusted and it's wiggly. The passenger side looks like it's well on the way. The rear passenger door is rusty on the bottom inside, but I don't know how bad until I get it here and spend some time with it.

It's all I could have hoped for and more. I think I am in love!!!

Thanks for all the advice and the kind words! Once I figure out what I am doing, I would love to have a HAMOM here! I have a big grill and lot's of floor space for those that need a place to crash.

I am so excited!!! Dan, feel free to fill in the gaps on the truck since I am such a newbie.

Heather,

This is the coolest!!! I like your style.....start talking about a 40 on Wednesday and by a 55 on Saturday :D ! I'll hope for a ride in it soon.

Just think.......ALL of the clubs' dogs can fit in the 55. Not the case with the 40!!

I am not sure if it's style or multiple personality disorder. I did talk with Stacy and she had a good point. Not many dogs fit in a 40. But hey, I can justify this all day long. Fact is, I saw it and fell in love.

The 40 will just have to wait a few years...

I think you got it Hez. The cool stuff I noticed:

- motor rebuild in the 90s.
- factory manual in the glovebox
- drums that actually stop the truck...new cylinders
- LOTS of man-a-fre, downey, and SOR parts
- headers on the motor
- VERY easy to restore this one, those pics are the only rust and it seems isolated right now.

The interesting:
- it has coilovers on top of leaf springs...pretty funky, makes it ride bouncy.

Like I said, it is a very nice cruiser, and Hez got a great deal. The guy threw in a LOAD of parts, including a new aisin clutch kit, all the engine seals, a few extra carbs, drums, a roof rack, etc.

I think this truck would be WELL served with a 4-speed swap, AC, and power steering. Beyond that it is all restoration work to make a perfect pig.

If those "extra" carbs are Aisin... I'll buy one from you!

Heather, I will be getting a 55 about the same time you end up with a 40... They are too cool!!

Congratulations. You bringing it to the meeting on Tues?

She is picking it up from my house tomorrow. I have it tweaked to run a bit better so I think she said she would be bringing it to the meeting.

Congats! thats one sweet looking piggy. Looks as though you got yourself a great find.

Congrats Heather, I envy you.
It was a 55 that first hooked me on LCs, back in 78. I always wanted one but I already have WAY too many toys that need fixin' or TLC. When the FJC came along I fell like a stone. LC cool with modern conveniences, great wheeler, and nothing to fix (can you say warranty?).
I love my barbycruiser but still hope to one of these days get a pig. Enjoy enjoy enjoy. Zen and the art of cruiser mechanics.

More to come about my ride when I learn how to open a thread.

Congrats Heather... You said you were going to wait till you found just the right one for you.. Who knew it would be a PIGGY.. :) Eric has been talking a lot about his first Piggy ride in Jason's this week.. Like someone said in another thread, Piggy's are popping out everywhere. Maybe Eric and I will find our dog mobile. (pooring rain, two scared dogs on the loose, and only the 40 to use in the search. Oh yeah with Bikini top on... We MADE two 60+ lb. dogs fit in the back with the tool box. Not very Dog friendly and all 4 of us got SOAKED!!) I can't wait to have a 55 or 80 in our family.

Great find Heather...

Thanks y'all. Today I got my first experience driving it around and on the highway. I think I am going to need a 4 speed soon. It's like driving a tractor! But I really do like it. Back to the basics...reminds me of driving my dad's old pick up. It runs great, now I have to get used to the clutch again. Been a while since I drove a stick!

I found more fun stuff in the back of the truck...including the original repair manuals for the engine and the body and chassis. I also have the original owner's manual. Found a Rochester carb, another weber carb, 2 drums, a complete remanufactured clutch kit, original ignition (it has electric ignition), OEM skid plate, luggage rack, all kinds of gaskets and miscellaneous stuff. Amazing.

The one thing I did forget to get from him is the OEM 12 volt light that plugs into the outlet under the hood. Gotta send Dan after that this week.

The surprises never cease.
